Job Overview:
The Manager of Digital Breeding, is responsible for setting up and managing a global digital breeding platform to accelerate the variety pipeline through predictive modeling and the development of New Genomic Techniques (NGT) varieties. This role is crucial in executing McCain’s new breeding strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Platform Management:Lead the global digital breeding platform, focusing on enhancing digital tools and leveraging genomic data in potato breeding.
Project Management:Oversee projects that advance digital breeding technologies, with a specific emphasis on genomic prediction and gene-editing technologies.
Data Integration:Ensure platforms efficiently manage large-scale genomic data and support complex breeding algorithms.
Collaboration:Work closely with regional variety experts, the global variety team, and the global digital team to design and implement genomic prediction models for potato breeding.
NGT Development:Support the development of NGT varieties by providing tools and techniques for efficient target selection and capture.
Cross-Functional Leadership:Lead cross-functional teams in projects focused on the integration of genomic and phenotypic data.
Strategic Collaboration:Act as an expert in strategic collaborations within the NGT and digital breeding space, and serve as a liaison between regional variety SMEs, breeders, data scientists, and software developers to ensure the digital platform meets the specific needs of potato breeding.
Qualifications:
Academic:
- Must Have:Master of Science in Plant Breeding, Data Science, or Genomics
- Nice to Have:PhD in Molecular Breeding
Professional/Technical Accreditations:
- Must Have:
- High level of understanding of bioinformatics and modeling
- High level of understanding of the application of genomic data and models in plant breeding
- Nice to Have:
- Experience in genomic selection in potato breeding
Related Work Experience:
- Proven ability to oversee complex projects with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience in strategic program management
- Experience managing genomics projects
- Experience in the plant breeding industry
