Business Intelligence Engineer, Japan Operations The Amazon ARTS (APEX-RoW Technology Solutions) team is looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer to optimize in one of the world's largest and most complex data warehouse environments. You are expected being passionate about working with huge database and someone who loves to bring datasets together to create dashboards and business reports. You are required to have deep expertise in creation and management of datasets and optimization of database.

You should be expert at implementing and operating stable, scalable data flow solutions from production systems into end-user facing applications/reports. You are required to have excellent business and communication skills to be able to work with business stakeholders to develop business report/dashboard and to support building data pipeline. You will own customer relationship about data and execute tasks that are manifestations of such ownership, like ensuring high data availability, low latency, documenting data details and transformations and handling user notifications and training.

This role offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on our organization's data infrastructure while working with new technologies and collaborating with diverse teams across RoW (the rest of the world excl. NA and EU) countries.

Key job responsibilities
The role is responsible to drive large cross team programs with limited guide from manager: 1) optimize user’s data pipeline and SQL and database infrastructure across RoW; 2) help business stakeholders to provide data pipeline solutions with Amazon/ARTS internal tech products and AWS services (e.g. Redshift, SageMaker, EMR, ETL tools, data lake); 3) develop scripts for maintenance automation; 4) execute the tech implementation with a clear milestone planning and lead it to smooth launch; 5) help business stakeholders ramp up with team internal and Amazon tech products (e.g., Redshift Cluster, ETL tools, query performance)

A day in the life
An average day may look like:

  • Attend daily standup to give status updates
  • Monitor, maintain and optimize the team data infra health and performance
  • Develop script to automate maintenance of the team data infra
  • Learn about a new business intelligence technology and AWS services

    About the team
    The Amazon ARTS (APEX-RoW Technology Solutions) team is responsible for creating core analytics tech capabilities and data engineering services for RoW (the rest of the world excl. NA and EU) countries. It comprises of platforms development, research science, software development and data engineering. ARTS develops scalable analytics applications and research modeling to optimize operation processes. The team standardizes and optimizes data sources and visualization efforts across geographies, builds up and maintains the online BI services and data mart.
    At ARTS, data engineers, data scientists, business intelligence engineers and product managers use rigorous quantitative approaches to ensure that we target to provide high quality data tech products to our customers around the world, including India, Japan, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Singapore, Turkey and MENA.
    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - Experience with scripting language (e.g., Python, Java, or R)
  • Experience with AWS tools and technologies (Redshift, S3, SageMaker, EMR, Lambda)
  • Business level communication skills in Japanese (listening, speaking, reading, writing)
  • Ability to read and write in English (ex. e-mail, slack communication)
  • Interested in working with diverse team members and contributing to an inclusive culture
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
  • The proficiency to conduct business communication in English
