Sr. Business Intelligence Engineer, JP Seller Services

Seller Services is one of the fastest growing businesses within Amazon. The “Selling on Amazon” service enables third-party sellers to sell their products via Amazon and reach tens of millions of potential shoppers.

Japan Seller Services is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer to join the BI team. The core focus of this role is to leverage data and BI capabilities to directly support the goals and initiatives of the Japan Seller Services business team. Stakeholders include product/program managers, sales managers and leadership team. The ideal candidate will be excited about pulling complex data from large scale database using SQL, identifying and developing metrics that are relevant to the focus of programs, automating metrics tracking on Quicksight or Excel, diving deep into data to fix business issues and uncover growth opportunities, estimating business impact for the new program using proxy data, and running statistical models. The ideal candidate will own good business acumen and enjoy influencing business decisions while improving operational efficiency to drive higher productivity.

The individual must be able to:

- Manage request intake independently and set priorities based on organizational needs.

  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and deliver in the most efficient and effective way.
  • Interact and communicate effectively with stakeholders, including senior leadership from multiple project areas.
  • Translate complex or ambiguous business problems into clear analysis requirements.
  • Proactively identify high-impact business problems and help partners create actionable priorities.
  • Derive business insights from analysis and provide recommendations.
  • Extract complex data from large-scale Redshift databases using efficient queries.
  • Develop metrics tracking and automate scheduled report refreshes (daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly).
  • Design and implement robust, extensible, and scalable solutions.
  • Ensure data accuracy and reliability while adhering to globally standardized definitions.
  • Demonstrate technical expertise (SQL, Python, Statistics, AWS technologies) in delivering BI solutions.
  • Effectively communicate technical blockers and requirements with Business Intelligence teams in US/India.
  • Make appropriate technical trade-offs between long-term and short-term needs.
  • Comprehend business documents to understand priorities.
  • Write clear documentation outlining analysis details, insights, and recommendations

    Key job responsibilities
    The individual will own 2+ business domains and work closely with business partners (Product/Program/Sales Managers) and technical partners (BIEs, Data Engineers, Data Scientists) across the following four pillars:

    [Data Visualization]
    Build and maintain metrics tables in Quicksight/Excel for weekly/monthly/quarterly business reviews with the leadership team. Develop and maintain detailed metrics dashboards for product/program managers and account managers. This involves alignment with business stakeholders in Japan and technical stakeholders in US/India.

    [Analytics]
    Deliver insights and recommendations to support business decision-making. This includes opportunity/risk/impact analysis of new programs/product features and investigation of data quality/customer-facing issues. The role may require using statistical models and delivering 1-4 page documents or contributing to business documentation.

    [Ad-hoc Data Pull]
    Write SQL queries and extract complex data for short/long-term planning and quick decision-making. This requires good judgment in determining what should be supported by BIEs versus self-managed by data requesters.

    [Operational Efficiency]
    Enhance BI team productivity by collaborating with Business Intelligence Engineers and Data Engineers in US/India teams to develop and implement innovative solutions.

    A day in the life
    A typical day as a Business Intelligence Engineer is dynamic and involves cross-functional and global collaboration. Here's what you might experience throughout your day:

    - Monitor and prioritize incoming requests from business stakeholders through our ticketing system (SIM)
  • Align on requirements with stakeholders through various channels (meetings, Slack, in-person discussions)
  • Develop and maintain data visualizations and analytics solutions
  • Participate in global technical discussions about metric standardization, data source alignment, database optimizations and other initiatives
    You will dedicate approximately 5% of time to routine operational tasks.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    - 10+ years of professional or military experience
  • 5+ years of SQL experience
  • Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets
  • Experience with theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results
  • Experience with AWS technologies
  • Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.
  • Experience with theory and practice of information retrieval, data science, machine learning and data mining
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    - Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
  • Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership
