Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and innovative Genomic Data Scientist to join our Bioinformatics Research Scientific Consulting team, applying scientific analysis, programming expertise and communication skills to support cancer genomics in an agile, multidisciplinary environment.

Everyday responsibilities include:

Delivery of high-quality research projects to support ongoing cancer research with our external partners.

Researching scientific literature to identify new approaches to cancer genome analysis further supporting our translational work.

Incorporation of whole genome data with complex real world datasets, demonstrating domain expertise to further inhouse capabilities.

Utilising extensive programming and analysis skills, including ML, to further enrich Genomics England’s cancer dataset.

Communicating with and presenting to both internal and external collaborators from a range of backgrounds. Skills and experience for success:

Understanding of cancer genomics and expertise in the analysis of cancer genomic datasets.

Strong programming skills in Python and/or R for efficient data processing and analysis.

Experience working in nextflow and familiarity with creating containerised software with suitable version control and documentation would be beneficial.

Ability to evaluate statistical and machine learning techniques, apply them in practical scenarios, and interpret results while considering the assumptions and limitations of the methods.

Hands-on experience analysing large real world clinical datasets to support translation of genomic science to the clinic.

Experience working in cross-functional analytical team in an academic or industry setting.

Qualifications

PhD or equivalent commercial experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics or equivalent quantitative discipline
