NuStaff are currently recruiting a Business Intelligence Developer to join Lincolnshire Police on a fixed-term contract.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Power BI professional to play a key role in developing, maintaining, and optimising the Force's Microsoft Power BI estate, working within a collaborative IT and Data Team.

The Role

As Business Intelligence Developer, you will design, build, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, semantic models, and dataflows that support the Force's reporting and performance needs. You'll work closely with stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective BI solutions, and collaborate with data engineers to produce technical design documentation aligned with Force standards, governance, and security requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and paginated reports
  • Build and optimise semantic models, including star schemas, relationships, measures, and row-level security
  • Create and maintain dataflows and shared datasets to support enterprise reporting
  • Apply dimensional modelling principles to support analytical workloads, working with data engineers on technical solution design
  • Maintain the day-to-day running of the Power BI estate: workspace management, dataset refresh monitoring, gateway oversight, and performance optimisation
  • Engage with business stakeholders to gather, document, and validate requirements, producing Business Requirements Documents (BRDs)
  • Support the Force Performance Management Team with data visualisation and insight delivery
  • Create and manage Azure DevOps work items (user stories, tasks, bugs), contributing to version control, deployment pipelines, and release processes
  • Keep up to date with developments in Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and related BI technologies, recommending tools and best practice
  • Produce and maintain BRDs, technical design documents, implementation notes, and user guides

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrable experience turning user requirements into successful BI visualisations, ideally using Power BI, to support organisational performance improvement
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience providing technical and user support at an enhanced level
  • Understanding of data modelling techniques for relational and dimensional databases
  • Knowledge or experience of Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server databases, including creating database objects and stored procedures
  • Strong, professional communication skills
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Ability to achieve the required security clearance for the role

Desirable:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in a technology discipline
  • Experience of Data Warehouse design
  • Experience using and configuring Azure DevOps (ADO)
  • Business analysis knowledge
  • Working knowledge of ITIL
  • Working knowledge of XML, ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and SQL Server

Pay rates

  • PAYE: £17.97 per hour
  • Umbrella: £23.73 per hour

Working pattern

  • Hybrid role, split between home and HQ
  • Monday to Friday, hours falling between 08:00 and 16:30
