The Opportunity
I'm currently working with a leading construction organisation that is looking to hire an experienced Business Intelligence Developer to join its BI team.
Working closely with the Business Intelligence Manager, you'll play a key role in delivering end-to-end BI solutions, covering data ingestion, transformation, modelling and visualisation.
You'll work closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements, define KPIs and translate these into effective technical solutions. The role will involve hands-on development across Power BI, including semantic models, DAX, Power Query and dashboards.
You'll also be responsible for maintaining and optimising the Power BI environment, championing data quality and governance, and supporting the organisation's adoption of AI-enabled analytics such as Copilot and natural-language insight.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards aligned to business requirements.
- Develop and maintain data warehouse/lakehouse assets and ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Work with stakeholders to gather requirements, define KPIs and translate business needs into technical specifications.
- Develop semantic models and measures using Power BI, DAX and Power Query.
- Maintain and optimise BI solutions, including model performance, refresh reliability and accessibility.
- Present data-driven insights to stakeholders through clear data storytelling.
- Maintain technical documentation covering data definitions, lineage, model design and refresh processes.
- Champion data quality, governance and security, including access controls and row-level security.
- Apply best practices across semantic modelling, testing, source control and release management.
- Support Power BI Service administration, including workspaces, permissions, gateways and deployment pipelines.
- Support the adoption of AI-enabled analytics, including Copilot and natural-language Q&A.
Essential Skills and Experience
- 3+ years' professional experience in Business Intelligence, Analytics or a relevant technical field.
- Strong Power BI experience, including semantic modelling, DAX and Power Query (M).
- Experience with paginated reporting using SSRS and/or Power BI.
- Strong SQL experience, ideally SQL Server, Azure SQL Database and T-SQL.
- Experience with ETL/ELT and data integration tools, ideally Informatica.
- Strong understanding of dimensional modelling, including Star Schema.
- Experience optimising BI models, queries and reporting performance.
- Understanding of Power BI Service administration and governance.
- Experience working in an agile environment, ideally using Azure DevOps.
- Understanding of source control, deployment processes and testing/validation.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong business acumen and problem-solving ability.
Desirable Skills
- Experience within the construction industry.
- Knowledge of construction operational and financial metrics.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or Azure data services such as Data Factory, Synapse or Databricks.
- Experience with Copilot, natural-language Q&A or other AI features within Power BI/Microsoft 365.
- Microsoft PL-300 certification or willingness to work towards it.
