Who are Medequip Connect?

Medequip Connect provide services to over 10,000 people nationwide with the objective of providing reassurance and support to older, disabled or vulnerable people allowing them to remain safely in their own home.

We help people to maintain independence by providing Technology Enabled Care (TEC) and a range of associated equipment that gives them the confidence of knowing that assistance is available at any time, 24 hours a day. Our care technology services provide peace of mind to you, your family, and your friends.

About the role

As the Trusted Assessor Technician for Medequip Connect, you will complete Technology Enabled Care (TEC) assessments and installations in the community and identify suitable TEC solutions and standalone assistive technologies to enable service users to remain in their own homes according to their wishes; and to promote independence, choice and well-being and provide support to carers as appropriate.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Knowledge of how disability and frailty affects people’s lives and how equipment solutions (particularly TEC) can support people to live safe and independent lives.
  • Knowledge of TEC and assistive technology products and services and their role and purpose in meeting assessed needs and managing identified risks for people in their own homes.
  • Assess the needs of people with a disability and carry out a TEC Assessment to identify technology solutions to enable them to live safely and independently as possible.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of products in order to appropriately recommend the provision of suitable TEC solutions for vulnerable and disabled people.
  • Participate in regular clinical supervision by the local TEC OT to provide reflective practice on assessments carried out and ensure continual improvement.
  • Participate in regular training to ensure your assessment skills are continually developed and improved as technologies change and complex needs are assessed.
  • Strong customer-facing skills which include the ability to listen and empathise, alongside a caring nature which puts our service users at the heart of what we do.
  • Good analytical skills and structured approach to problem solving.
  • Conduct service calls on existing equipment, fault finding and resolving any issues service users may have, including the collection of existing equipment when service users may no longer require it.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with a range of service providers to provide and maintain a flow of information and appropriate and effective communication for the benefit of service users.
  • Provide interactive demonstrations of installed equipment to our service users which will instil confidence and knowledge when using the equipment, alongside aftercare offerings and supporting education and documentation for service users, listening and offering solutions to any questions they may have.
  • Installation and upgrade of digital assistive technology equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations and TSA Quality Standards Framework requirements, whilst using both handheld and power tools to install equipment in a safe manner.
  • Utilise and follow processes for transferring stock to and from service users’ homes.
  • Update and maintain service user records accurately with a diligent approach to data quality.
  • Assist in the research into and testing of new equipment, including supporting with project work.
  • Conduct risk and dynamic assessments for your own safety and the service users during installation and interaction with a strong emphasis upon working safely.
  • Maintain the vehicle that is provided for you in the line of work in conjunction with required standards ensuring that daily checks are completed, and any issues are immediately reported.
  • Strong organisational skills to ensure all documentation relating to work equipment and vehicle are always kept tidy and in a serviceable condition.

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Full UK Driving License is essential.
  • Experience of writing quality assessments/reports and ability to use information technology systems to input and access data.
  • Experience of working with vulnerable adults, including Mental Health, Physical Disabilities, Learning Disabilities or Older adults. Work will have included the identification of needs and recommendation of TEC and assistive technology solutions in people’s homes to meet assessed needs.
