Senior Safety Engineer - Staff position - Based in Glasgow, Aberdeen or Edinburgh

Our Client has a requirement for a Senior Safety Engineer, who will be required to work on a Permanent basis in either Glasgow, Aberdeen or Edinburgh.

Job Title: Senior Safety Engineer
Location: Ideally based in our Glasgow or Edinburgh office
Department: Technical/Process Safety

Hybrid: 3 days per week in office, 2 days from home (Flexible with working hours)

Salary: Competitive

About the Role

Our Client is seeking an experienced Senior Safety Engineer to join our world-class Technical/Process Safety team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about technical excellence, capable of leading or supporting diverse projects, and dedicated to mentoring junior engineers while continuing to develop their own expertise.

As part of a leading global consultancy, you will contribute to the successful delivery of Safety Engineering commissions, support our clients in high-hazard industries—including Oil & Gas, Low Carbon, and Renewables—and play a key role in advancing our capabilities throughout the energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and support the delivery of high-quality technical safety projects.
Conduct safety studies including consequence analysis, Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), Formal Safety Assessments, and compliance with Safety Case/COMAH regulations.
Prepare and review technical reports to a high standard.
Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineers.
Develop proposals and cost estimates for new project scopes.
Manage project execution to ensure compliance with scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
Engage directly with clients and foster strong long-term relationships.
Undertake additional tasks as assigned, aligned with your role, capabilities, and ongoing professional development.
Qualifications & Experience

Education & Certification:

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a relevant engineering discipline.
Chartered Engineer status with a recognized institution.
Technical Experience:

Proven experience in Process/Technical Safety, preferably within the energy sector.
Solid foundation in risk and safety management principles.
Strong grasp of QRA, consequence analysis (ideally using PHAST software), and other safety assessment techniques.
In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (e.g., COMAH, Safety Case Regulations).
Track record of delivering safety studies within time and budget constraints without compromising quality.
Experience contributing to successful bids and proposals.
Competence in reviewing and checking technical documentation.
