Job Purpose
This role is part of the statutory returns team, which is responsible for the external reporting of accurate data in accordance with HESA and SFC. The holder will be responsible for improving the quality and managing key information assets, aimed at improving the overall data and data governance maturity of the University. This includes the collection, audit and validation of data, applying both internal data quality processes and ensuring compliance with the HESA and SFC data collection rules. A key part of the role of the team is the analysis of the returns, impacts on the University and the presentation of management information. To have an in-depth understanding of the lifecycle, structure and appropriate use of student data to provide expert advice and recommendations to inform management decisions and support a wide range of data users. Be a source of advice and experience in business processes and technical understanding of specific areas and provide recommendations within professional guidelines to meet service requirements.Main Duties & Responsibilities1. Using a high level of expertise, coordinate the work of the HESA team. Set priorities and ensure that the service provided by the team is efficient, effective and professional and that processes and procedures are regularly reviewed and improved. 2. Review data for inconsistencies or anomalies that could lead to misleading data analysis and challenge poor data management practices that might negatively impact internal or external reporting of student metrics. Co-ordinate across services and play a central role in the procurement of a solution to improve data quality in a way that effectively supports the needs of both daily operations and external reporting. 3. Complete a comprehensive review of HESA Data Futures requirements and their impact on practices and procedures. Lead on the adoption and preparation for data futures ensuring that system(s) and processes are all fit for purpose to deliver the requirements of data futures and ensure that the University is fully prepared to meet the demands of in year reporting. 4. Accountable for the production and completion of the HESA Data Futures Student return analysis and output. Responsible for the operational processes and production of the return. To work closely with the data owners to ensure the accuracy of the data being utilised. To analyse the return and provide management information on the outputs and impact of the data. 5. Liaise and communicate closely with all services which play a role in the collection and transformation of data, which is used internally for operational use, strategic analysis or reported externally for publication. 6. Play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of data held in the student record and other corporate databases in support of Data Governance. 7. Work to enforce Data Governance activities across all domains covering ownership, onboarding, standards, rules and process. 8. Play significant role in Data Governance communities and ensures decision making around data constantly evolves and suits the University needs. 9. Using the Data Governance framework, train and educate the Data Stewards and Owners on their Data Governance and data quality management practices.Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills & ExperienceKnowledge / Qualifications EssentialA1 Experience working on Data quality project within Higher Education.A2 Knowledge of SFC Guidelines and Policies.A3 Knowledge of HESA Guidelines and Policies.A4 Knowledge of Data Management Practices.SkillsEssentialC1 Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.

F2 Experience of working on HESA and SFC statutory returns.Terms and ConditionsSalary will be Grade 7, £39,347 - £44,263 per annum. This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended (permanent).
