We have a relatively small IS team dedicated to making a significant impact on our technology organization and landscape. This team collaborates to manage data, software engineering, support and administration, CRM, cloud-based services, and more to support BES Group’s continual growth.


We are seeking a skilled Senior Microsoft Data Engineer to join our team. You will utilise your experience to lead & collaborate with other members of the team or directly with our business users to translate required business outcomes into value enabling solutions not only our business but also for our customers.


What will you be doing?

As a Senior Microsoft Data Engineer for BES Group, you will own the development and implementation of data and reporting solutions using the latest Microsoft technologies: SQL Server Integration Services, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Analysis Services, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory and Power BI.


This role is hybrid based in our Manchester office.



  • Work with other members of the team or directly with our business users to understand and document business requirements, evaluate options, research, and propose suitable solutions.
  • Use your stakeholder management skills to translate business requirements into design specifications.
  • You will ensure that all work is carried through the environments, source controlled with regularity and that deployment packages are robust and well organised. Ensuring all conflicts in this area are merged/escalated effectively whilst supporting the development and enhancement of our CI/CD pipelines.
  • You will take an active role in ensuring the highest quality of our processes and the data we provide, working with system and business owners to ensure a proactive approach supporting data governance as well as establishing best practice guidelines for code management and deployment between cloud MI environments.
  • Contribute to establishing best practice guidelines and standards for code management and deployment between cloud MI environments.
  • Mentor and support team members as well as wider business users through training, pair programming, and knowledge sharing, fostering a culture of continuous learning.

To join our team, you will need:

  • Successful delivery of complex Business Intelligence solutions using modern data platform & reporting technologies and services in Microsoft Azure. Especially Synapse, ADF and Power BI (Datasets and Reports). Ideally SSIS, SSRS, SSAS with some understanding of Power App design and delivery
  • Expert in SQL and Python (PySpark) languages, any other object orientated language skills would be a benefit
  • Expert in data modelling and data architecture concepts
  • Experience of setup and management of code management & deployment tools
  • A high level of stakeholder management experience with key project ownership
  • Proficient in debugging, monitoring, tuning and troubleshooting BI solutions across current and older Microsoft stack (e.g. Synapse, Data Bricks, Power BI, etc.)
  • Expert knowledge of code management & deployment tools using CI/CD principles using GIT across Microsoft technologies
  • Knowledge and a proven track record in data governance / data quality management
  • Ideally experience of Microsoft Dynamics CRM, F&O or Field Services as sources
  • Strong Customer and Value focus, both internal and external with proven experience in gathering both high and low level requirements
  • Strong communication skills; both written and oral
  • An analytical mindset, with the ability to interpret and analyze complex data with an automation first philosophy
  • Microsoft Certified against appropriate toolsets/technologies
