Senior Data Engineer

About the Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer who can lead and develop a small team of engineers supporting the delivery of business demand for data and insight.

You will manage stakeholder engagement, set clear priorities for maximum impact, and ensure accurate, timely financial data delivery. Youll become a subject matter expert in source systems and business processes, supporting Finance and Actuarial needs within the Data Office.

The role will be based out of our Bournemouth office on a hybrid working pattern.
Key Accountabilities
•Lead and support a team of engineers across on-prem and cloud technologies to develop and maintain centralised data platforms that meet the business’s operational and strategic data requirements.
•Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate data requirements into data requests for execution or solutions for build, focusing on continuous improvement.
•Prioritise and coordinate data requests to meet business needs efficiently and in a controlled manner.
•Ensure data products meet technical standards through quality assurance and continuous improvement.
•Lead data workstreams in change portfolios, providing technical expertise and ensuring alignment with data strategy and design standards.
•Manage and mentor engineers and offshore delivery partners, reviewing work and promoting best practices.
•Maintain accurate documentation and continuously improve data governance and quality processes.

About You
•Significant experience of data extraction, manipulation and reporting using the Microsoft workstack SSMS, SSIS, SSRS and SSAS.
•Experience supporting both on-prem environments and cloud migration (Fabric/Azure).
•Proven knowledge of data warehousing, ETL, programming, and data management best practices.
•Experienced with Azure BI/MI tools: Synapse, Data Factory, Power BI.
•Proven expertise in applying tools and best practice processes to ensure data security, accuracy, and quality, including the successful implementation of robust data quality frameworks.
•Excellent communicator, able to engage non-technical audiences, manage expectations and make recommendations based on user feedback.
•Proven ability to thrive under pressure, quickly adapt to business needs, and lead data-focused workstreams with precision and responsiveness.

•Previous experience of leading and motivating a multiskilled team of engineers across different locations.

•Builds strong cross-functional and external relationships, ensuring collaboration and alignment across teams.
Desirable
•Understanding of Finance & Actuarial processes, including regulatory and reporting requirements in a mutual/insurance environment.
