About the role:
The Senior Synapse Engineer will take the lead in designing, developing, and optimising our data platform, delivering scalable, high-performance data processing solutions within Microsoft Azure. This role demands deep expertise in Microsoft Synapse, PySpark, Power BI, and Azure infrastructure, ensuring robust data pipelines, governance, and analytics capabilities.
The successful candidate will serve as a key technical leader, overseeing a team of Data Engineers while providing strategic direction, technical expertise, and mentorship to enhance team performance and drive innovation.
What you’ll do:
Lead the design and development of scalable data solutions using Microsoft Synapse, Azure Data Lake, and PySpark.
Architect and manage data ingestion, transformation, and storage strategies within the Azure ecosystem.
Optimise data pipelines and ETL processes for performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
Develop and implement best practices for data governance, security, and compliance in line with industry standards.
Leverage Power BI to create insightful reports and dashboards that support business decision-making.
Work closely with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Provide leadership and technical mentorship to a team of Data Engineers, ensuring best practices in development and deployment.
Stay updated on emerging technologies and drive continuous improvement within the data platform.

What we are looking for:
Proven experience with Microsoft Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake, and Azure Data Factory.
Proficiency in PySpark for large-scale data processing.
Expertise in designing and optimising data warehouses and ETL pipelines.
Strong knowledge of Power BI for data visualisation and reporting.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD practices for data engineering.
High level of coding proficiency in SQL and Python.
Experience in data analytics and business intelligence within the retail, fuel, or food industries.
Experience managing and mentoring technical teams.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
