Hometrack’s market-leading property data sets, valuation models, and risk insights are delivered via our suite of B2B SaaS applications for mortgage lenders, brokers, and more. We’ve led the market for twenty years. Our services are mission-critical to the UK’s top banks, automating their mortgage offers. They’re used daily by home builders, mortgage brokers, local councils, and more to make informed property purchasing decisions.
We’ve migrated key legacy SQL Server/SSIS pipelines to PySpark and Databricks, and we’re in the home stretch of our modernisation programme. Now we’re looking to unlock the power of our disparate data, and make it accessible and reusable across our teams and products, and enable our customers to self-serve. Overview
What we’re looking for in a Head of Data Engineering:
- Collaborative, across product teams, and functions (Data Science, Analytics, Legal, Software, etc)
- A pragmatist, who can align multiple product workstreams towards the coherent vision of a unified high quality, high trust data platform to support production services, including dashboards, new product delivery, analytics and data science development
- Comfortable working to high standards of compliance (ISO-27001, GDPR), Data Governance, and Information Security
- Experienced in migrating from SQL based data architectures to modern Data Engineering technologies, using PySpark, Databricks, Terraform, and Pandas
- Someone able to explore, analyse and understand our data and its uses
- Ideally experienced in a multi-cloud environment (Databricks across Azure and AWS) solving networking, security, and best practice challenges
- A product mindset, helping our product teams and customers solve data problems
- A leader who can build a culture of continuous improvement
Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of the UK Property Data Platform, architecting and delivering data solutions that support production services, dashboards, analytics, and data science workloads
- Collaborate with product teams and functions to align workstreams with a unified data platform vision
- Support compliance, data governance, and information security requirements
- Guide migration from SQL-based architectures to modern technologies (PySpark, Databricks, Terraform, Pandas)
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and data-driven decision making
Qualifications
- Proven leadership experience in data engineering or related roles
- Experience migrating from SQL-based data architectures to modern tools (PySpark, Databricks, Terraform, Pandas)
- Strong collaboration skills across product, data science, analytics, legal, and software teams
- Understanding of data governance, compliance (ISO-27001, GDPR), and information security
- Experience in multi-cloud environments (Databricks on Azure and AWS) addressing networking and security challenges
- Product-minded with ability to solve data problems for products and customers
