Data Lead

Reporting to: City Manager

The Data Lead is responsible for ensuring the effective management, quality, analysis, and reporting of data across a national charity's service. The role supports operational delivery, contractual performance, continuous improvement, and strategic decision-making through the use of high-quality data.

Working closely with service managers, frontline teams, and central performance functions, the postholder will ensure alignment with the charity's Data Governance Framework, Delivery Framework, and One Data Platform.

• Act as the local lead for data management and reporting within the Derby service.
• Support implementation of the One Data Platform and ensure high-quality source data.
• Embed common data standards and ensure consistent recording of interventions, outcomes, and service user journeys.
• Liaise between operational teams and central data functions to support organisation-wide data development.

• Produce, validate, and interpret performance reports for commissioners, operational management, internal governance, and national datasets such as NDTMS.
• Support managers in using data to improve performance and achieve KPIs.
• Ensure timely and accurate contractual and statutory reporting.
• Respond to ad hoc reporting requests and support the transition to Power BI-based reporting.

• Ensure compliance with data governance, GDPR, ISO9001, and organisational policies.
• Monitor and improve data quality across systems and processes.
• Support audits, Subject Access Requests (SARs), Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, and data compliance activities.
• Escalate data risks and breaches appropriately.

• Lead day-to-day data operations within case management systems.
• Ensure consistent use of systems, data standards, permissions, and data completeness.
• Coordinate resolution of system issues and support service continuity during downtime.
• Contribute to system enhancements and data model improvements.

• Deliver training and guidance on data recording, reporting requirements, and governance standards.
• Improve data literacy across teams and support adoption of new systems and reporting approaches.
• Enable confident use of dashboards and performance information.

• Build effective relationships with commissioners, partners, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders.
• Represent the service in meetings relating to data, performance, and quality.
• Ensure local priorities align with organisational data objectives.

• Degree-level qualification in data, analytics, information management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in a Data Lead, Performance Analyst, Data Analyst, or similar role.
• Experience managing, analysing, and reporting operational or service-level data in a complex environment.
• Experience improving data quality, supporting audits, and managing performance reporting.
• Experience delivering training and supporting change initiatives.
• Experience within health, social care, substance use, or commissioned services is desirable.

• Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality principles, GDPR, and information management.
• Experience with case management systems and performance reporting tools.
• Knowledge of modern data platforms and business intelligence tools, including:
  • Power BI
  • Data warehouses and data lakes
  • Common data models
• Ability to translate complex data into meaningful insights for non-technical audiences.
• Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
