Working alone, across internal teams, or alongside external professional services, the job requires dedication to embracing new technologies and solutions, providing the requirements, documentation, configurations for implementation and future support.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to create an overall technical vision for a specific solution to a business problem. You will design, describe, and manage the solution. In many ways, you will build the bridge between a business problem and the technology solution and outlines each of the phases and requirements required to make the solution work. To be successful in this role you will need a specific skillset within the Application domain. Practicing an Application design philosophy focused on performance, resilience, security, and scalability the Solution Architect will be entrusted to provide strategic solutions based on industry best-practice principals that ensure strong strategic alignment. To leverage and use technology solutions to enable the organisation's future-state business capabilities that, in turn, drive the organisations targeted outcomes. They facilitate and orchestrate the delivery of targeted business outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include…
Responsible for enhancing and accelerating projects while ensuring the logical and physical architecture for a project aligns with the standards and reference architectures defined by the technical domain and enterprise architects; to deliver the architectural design of technology solutions, the solution architect must utilize knowledge of defined reference architectures, technology trends, and implementation experience in order to translate a business need into a solution blueprint that represents an end-to-end technical solution. Design and lead the implementation of solutions architecture across a group of specific business applications or technologies based on enterprise business strategy, business capabilities and business requirements. Take ownership of Application Architecture to support the OSB Group Enterprise Architecture function (utilising LeanIX and other tooling). Demonstrate experience using software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes, application modelling techniques and application security industry best practices. Demonstrate strong knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation features (OS, Multi-tenancy, Virtualisation, Orchestration and Elastic Scalability). Provide Architectural oversight for applications or integrations hosted within cloud platforms such as Azure / AWS / SaaS and PaaS platforms Analyse the business-IT Application environment (run, grow and transform the business) to detect critical deficiencies, and recommend solutions for improvement (systems of record, differentiation and innovation). Effective communication skills to articulate complicated application strategies to Management and other senior stakeholders. Demonstrate knowledge of DevOps tool chains and processes. As a Subject Matter Expert to the enterprise demonstrate core competencies in application end-to-end architecture, networking, provisioning and Management. Develop a library of deployable and documented application design patterns based on OSB Group enterprise portfolio as a basis for deploying services to the cloud and on premise. Maintain overall industry knowledge on latest application technologies and IT Industry trends. Take accountability for the solution design for all portfolio approved projects. Responsible for ensuring the High Level Design (HLD) and Low Level Design (LLD) for a project aligns with the standards and reference architectures defined by the technical domain and enterprise architects. Understand business drivers and business capabilities (future and current state), and determine corresponding enterprise system designs and change requirements to drive the organisation's targeted business outcomes. Manage and develop the architecture for a broader scope of projects, working closely with application architects that manage and design architecture for a single project or initiative. Monitor the current-state solution portfolio to identify deficiencies through aging of the technologies used by the application, or misalignment with business requirements. Understand, advocate and augment the principles of information technology strategies. Analyse the business-IT environment (run, grow and transform the business) to detect critical deficiencies, and recommend solutions for improvement (systems of record, differentiation and innovation). Define the principles, guidelines, standards and solution patterns to ensure solution decisions are aligned with the enterprise's future-state architecture vision. Document all solution architecture design and analysis work. Work closely with the program management office (PMO) or project management office to ensure the execution of plans corresponds with what is being promised. Travelling between the Chatham and Wolverhampton sites as and when required

Previous experience in at least two IT architecture domains, including Solutions Architecture, Business Architecture, Data Architecture, Application Architecture, Security Architecture, Cloud Architecture and Technical Architecture is essential. Previous experience of applying architectural principles and tools, solution design, project planning and data governance in a corporate environment is essential. Experience of or more of IT Industry experience including Application analysis / development / configuration / Infrastructure / Networking / Security and data infrastructure such as SQL is essential. Previous experience developing/documenting Architecture Roadmaps, Standards & Patterns, Business problems including Scope, Functional and Non-functional Requirements Solution Design as well as detailed architecture Blueprints is essential. Previous management experience in a highly regulated organisation is essential. Proven experience in Cross-functional integration and negotiation skills is essential. Proven experience in understanding complex needs and requirements between technical and business-oriented audiences is essential. Proven Architecture and design experience is essential. Specialist knowledge in at least two IT architecture domains, including Solutions Architecture, Business Architecture, Data Architecture, Application Architecture, Security Architecture, Cloud Architecture and Technical Architecture is essential. Detailed knowledge of strategic and new emerging technology trends and the practical application of existing, new and emerging technologies to new and evolving business and operating models is essential. Detailed knowledge of the understanding of agile methods and processes, and capability of supporting agile project teams by providing advice and guidance on opportunities, impact and risks, taking account of technical and architectural debt is essential. Detailed knowledge in application and solution development is essential. Detailed knowledge of Cloud Based technologies using service and hosting solutions such as private/public cloud IaaS, PaaS and SaaS platforms is essential. Detailed knowledge of SQL (Structured Query Language) and NoSQL Programming is essential. Detailed knowledge programming languages / frameworks such as .Net, C#, Java, Python is essential. Detailed knowledge of object-oriented design principles, coding practices, micro services architecture and RESTful API services is essential. Detailed knowledge for developing / documenting Architecture Roadmaps, Standards & Patterns, and Business problems including Scope, Functional and Non-functional Requirements Solution Design as well as detailed architecture Blueprints is essential.
