Senior Sustainability Coordinator

Greater Manchester – Hybrid

£40,000 – £45,000 + benefits

Our client, a FTSE100 supplier to the retail industry now has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Sustainability Coordinator to join their team in the newly created role.

With an ongoing commitment to sustainability the team supports the Sales and Procurement Teams to deliver solutions that help their customers meet their own sustainability targets. Through collaboration with the network of Suppliers and application of their technical expertise, they support their customers to navigate changes in legislation through the development and delivery of innovative products and reporting tools.

    Job Purpose:

    The Senior Sustainability Coordinator will support the delivery of the sustainability services and product solutions whilst also ensuring compliance with legislation and evolving customer requirements. Reporting to the Sustainability & Innovation Manager, they will deliver projects that contribute to the businesses Sustainability and Commercial strategies, supported by two direct reports. They will support the development of their direct reports. Keeping abreast of legislative changes and customer strategies, they will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive sustainable change.

    Key Accountabilities:

  • Delivering projects as defined by the Sustainability Manager / Sustainability Director / Leadership Team, co-ordinating activity with direct reports.

  • Collaborate with Internal Stakeholders to ensure compliance with Sustainability focused legislation such as EPR, PPT and EUDR.

  • Collaborate with the Head of Operational Procurement to support change implementation and process / system development required for legislation and the evolving sustainability strategy.

  • Collaborate with the Sustainability & Innovation Manager, Innovation Buyer and Procurement Team to develop and deploy sustainability and innovation strategies based on category portfolios and customer requirements.

  • Maintain an understanding and awareness of legislation and market changes that will impact the company and their customers’ sustainability strategies.

  • Be a leader to direct reports, supporting their development.

  • Build strong internal and external relationships, including with senior partners.

  • Facilitate internal workshops on key themes relating to sustainability and innovation.

  • Organise events and stakeholder engagement activities.

  • Create written content suitable for different audiences including reports, white papers, newsletters and online platforms.

  • Analyse, interpret and report data to generate insights for the delivery of Consultancy Services, identification of performance improvements (product and carbon) and legislative compliance.

  • Support the delivery of evolving data strategy.

  • Track and report commercial benefits and KPIs delivered by the team.

    Skills & Experience Required:

  • The role would be suited to candidates who have a strong commercial background (eg in Procurement or Sales) with either qualifications or experience in Sustainability and / or a strong interest with an aptitude to learn quickly

  • Experience of line management and developing a high performing team (essential requirement)

  • A proven track record of delivering projects, ideally with commercial deliverables

  • An excellent communicator who is able to adapt their style for different audiences

  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development

  • Adaptable and able to manage a portfolio of projects in a fast-paced environment

  • Highly analytical and able to present projects in an effective manner

  • Experience with Microsoft Office including good excel knowledge (eg Lookups, Pivot Tables) and CRM systems for collaboration and record keeping

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Self-motivated, organised and proactive

  • Experience of change management and project management with the ability to manage complex initiatives.
