Role: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Uckfield, East Sussex

Fully Onsite role

Position Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer plays a key role in supporting existing product designs, and working with a team of engineers on new product designs to drive top line company growth. The role is varied and requires the candidate to be organized, methodical, hands on, and willing to learn new skills. The position is on-site at the Company's office in Uckfield, UK.

Main skills required: CAD, AUTODESK, INVENTOR

Key Responsibilities:

Design robust mechanical components, assemblies, and test fixtures for the Geotechnical Instrumentation industry;
Generate detail drawings, BOM's, engineering datasheets, inspection and test narratives etc.;
Provide input and advice during the development and manufacturing of physical prototypes for testing;
Perform mechanical engineering calculations (limits and fits) and stress analysis (FEA) on proposed designs/concepts as needed;
Analyze and test existing products to identify areas for improvement;
Liaise with the production department on sourcing, availability and pricing of product estimates;
Liaise with suppliers and communicate with staff or customers to identify technical requirements;
Regularly solicit feedback from assemblers, technicians, sales/marketing, and technical support to consistently find ways to refine and improve manufacturing, aesthetics, and service of products.

Experience, Qualifications & Skills:

Minimum 2.1BSc or BEng level in Mechanical Design Engineering (or equivalent)
Minimum 5-7 years' experience of piece part design of various types (Stamping, extrusion, milling, lathe, etc..)

Expert:

Design for manufacturing including various methods of fabrication including but not limited to welding, milling, lathe, extrusion, and injection molding
Autodesk InventorProficient:

Finite Element Analysis
Inspection methods
Understand electronic/electrical/mechanical system components
Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present complex topics in a concise manner
Ideal candidate must be able to manage multiple projects at one time and adhere to strict deadlines
Team player with the ability to problem solve effectively and collaboratively
Strong attention to detail and ability to learn in-house design practices and procedures
Ability to deliver technical discussions on design matters
Must be able to work independently within a small team environment
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with people at all levels and in a variety of functions
Excellent organizational and time management skillsHighly Beneficial:

Any Geotechnical or Civil Engineering design experience
Prior hands-on experience working in a machine shop and/or welding experienceBeneficial:

Beneficial : 3D Printing technologies and usageCompensation
