 Senior Manager, Data Strategy and Governance (One Braham (4140), London, United Kingdom)

The Scope

This role will work across BT Business to develop the data strategy to deliver Business strategic outcomes. 

The roles will also provide leadership and implement the right model for Business on data governance, data ownership and data stewardship.
  

What you’ll be doing

Data Strategy:

  • Developing and maintaining enterprise data strategy aligned with business objectives
  • Identifying key business drivers and how data can support them
  • Identifying opportunities to leverage data for competitive advantage and innovation
  • Collaborating with Business functional leadership to define data goals and priorities
  • Collaborating with Digital on data architecture and data platform modernisation
  • Defining enterprise data KPIs and dashboards (with business data domain owners) 

Data Governance and Compliance:

  • Working within BT Data governance and compliance policy, establish Business framework and approach for data governance and compliance. Establish and lead the data governance council
  • Defining and enforce (central) data policies, standards, and procedures (non-technical)
  • Ensuring data compliance with internal policies and external regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)
  • Improving data accessibility while maintaining security and compliance
  • Leading data quality management, including data profiling, cleansing, and monitoring

Data Ownership:

  • Defining and establishing data ownership and stewardship model with roles and responsibilities across the organisation.
  • Leading a virtual team bringing the roles together.
  • Implementing practices to ensure accountability for the quality, security and useage for their data domains.

Data Domain Design and Mapping:

  • Creating an E2E data domain map and business information model
  • Implementing domain-driven design principles to manage complex data environments
  • Collaborating with Digital Data function to ensure accurate data domain mapping
  • Governing B2B master data domains (e.g., customer, contract, inventory)

Data Stewardship:

  • Overseeing data stewardship activities to maintain high data quality and consistency
  • Defining and enforcing metadata management and data lineage practices
  • Promoting a data-driven culture through education and training initiatives (incl. AI)

Data Transformation:

  • Inputting into shaping the Data transformation programmes 

Experience needed to be successful in the role

  • Deep expertise in enterprise data strategy and governance, with a proven ability to define, embed and scale frameworks across large, matrixed organisations.
  • Strong working knowledge of data domain modelling and ownership structures, including experience assigning accountability across complex business units and managing stewardship at scale.
  • Expert-level understanding of data compliance, governance and policy (e.g. GDPR, data access models, usage permissions) and how to translate those into business practices that enable both control and innovation.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and shape business strategy through data – you’re confident setting direction, negotiating trade-offs, and aligning diverse views.
  • Experience leading or chairing cross-functional data governance forums or councils, with the ability to drive decision-making and consensus across business, digital and compliance teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data landscapes and drive actionable insight through information modelling, KPIs, and data quality metrics.
  • A natural collaborator and communicator, able to work across product, digital, commercial, and customer functions to embed a consistent data culture and operating model.
  • Up-to-date with industry best practices and tools in data governance, stewardship and business information modelling.
