Sustainable finance data (SFD) is increasingly crucial for our clients – providing deeper intelligence than conventional financial analysis alone. Climate change, regulatory pressures, the importance of human capital, and diversity are just a few critical factors global investors consider to best identify emerging risks and opportunities. At Bloomberg, Sustainable finance data is displayed alongside fundamental data, backed by news for context, and used to power a growing suite of Sustainable Finance products.

As a team, we are responsible for managing and enhancing Environmental, Social, and Governance data (ESG)-related content for the Bloomberg Terminal and Enterprise products, including company-reported and normalized metrics, key analytical ratios, industry-specific metrics, and proprietary scores. Joining the Data department means that you are a part of one of the world\'s leading sources of data, providing accurate, immediate insights for financial market professionals. You will enhance your product knowledge, learn about our clients and their needs, and build relationships throughout the company, all while helping our clients integrate sustainability risk and opportunity analysis into their workflows.

The Role

The ESG Data team is looking for a highly motivated individual with a passion for sustainable finance, ESG data, quality and technology to build and optimize our data product by developing and implementing our data quality strategy and quality assurance practices around material matters.. As a Data Management Professional, you will help to develop our business outcome-based data strategies to optimize the value of data for our customers and improve data operations.

Responsibilities
  • Define the data quality vision and orchestrate associated strategy for a suite of as reported Environmental, Social, and Governance data as well as derived products, such as ESG Scores
  • Understand Bloomberg’s commercial strategy for Environmental, Social, and Governance data for a suite of derived products, such as ESG Scores, to ensure high quality data products that address existing use-cases
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Product on enhancing workflows and potential derived products like indices, data license files, etc
  • Understand how different clients use their products/datasets, as exposed via different client interfaces (e.g. Terminal, BQL, Enterprise), in order to maintain up-to-date assessments of clients\' needs, expressed as fit-for-purpose target metrics
  • Perform data analysis of Environmental, Social, and Governance data as well as a suite of derived products, such as ESG Scores and related data sets, including data profiling and root cause analysis to validate approach via objective data driven decision making
  • Ideate and implement scalable solutions while working with a variety of stakeholders across the Data department
  • Keep up with industry trends, standards, and innovation in the data management domain
  • Work in a fast-paced, multifaceted, and collaborative setting
Requirements
  • A BA/BS degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Finance, Economics or Environmental Science, or equivalent professional work experience
  • 4+ years of professional experience in Data Quality Management, Quality Assurance Consulting or establishing Data Governance on metrics design within Finance or Technology industries
  • Experience in crafting and developing data quality metrics and reporting as part of a bigger data architecture framework
  • Understanding of ETL processes, Dataflow Recipes, and broader data workflow engineering concepts
  • Sound understanding of data quality as a domain of data management
  • A solid grasp of data management principles and technologies such as data modeling, data analysis and statistics to tell a narrative and/or generate data-driven insights
  • Demonstrable experience in Data Profiling/Analysis using tools such as Python, R, or SQL
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead multiple projects with global scope in parallel, with superb communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Solid ability to combine technical skills with business insight
Nice to have
  • Strong interest and proven work experience in the ESG market and sustainability related topics
  • Previous work experience with the Bloomberg Terminal or Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) certification
  • Experience using data analysis and visualization tools such as Tableau or QlikSense
  • Good understanding of data modeling concepts
  • Experience manipulating and wrangling large datasets
  • Familiarity with use cases of advanced statistical methods such as Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Natural Language Processing
