Job Title: Senior Compliance Manager – Office Based

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Based in our Head Office, Alfreton, off J28, M1, with travel as required.

Hours of work: Full time, 5 days per week.

Rate of pay: Competitive dependent on experience and qualifications

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Compliance Manager to complement our existing Management team in our waste and recycling Company.

An active and challenging role that requires an exceptionally organised and proactive individual to manage the Compliance team to deliver work against contractual and legislative obligations. Experience of Environmental Permitting and dealing with the Environment Agency is essential.

The Role:

Are you passionate about ensuring Environmental and Health & Safety compliance and maintaining high standards?

In this role, you’ll play a crucial part in overseeing legislative requirements across our operational locations whilst maintaining our Management System.

You will collaborate with internal stakeholders and will manage a small team to:

  1. meet environmental permit conditions,

  2. uphold Health & Safety practices,

  3. maintain and develop the Waste Company’s Management System and,

  4. oversee our internal and external audit programs.

    Responsibilities:

    To manage & undertake permit applications, permit transfers, permit variations and the Company’s waste carrier’s registrations.

  • To manage the submission of all Waste Returns to the Environment Agency within the defined reporting periods.

  • Ensure that our permitted facilities operate to permit conditions.

  • To provide the main point of contact for all communications with the Environment Agency

  • To manage all permitting activity including reviews of existing permits, working plans, fire prevention plans and other EA requirements

  • Ensure that safe working practices and Health and Safety legislation are adhered to by supporting our Health and Safety Advisors to ensure full compliance with all company and legislative requirements.

  • Ensure that essential Compliance tasks are completed in the agreed timeframes.

  • To comply with policies and procedures, ensuring data quality with internal and external audit requirements.

  • To maintain and develop the Company’s Management system and, to support with internal and external audits against the accredited ISO standards.

  • Develop and progress by working collaboratively with all stakeholders to achieve Company objectives and individual targets.

  • Create and maintain effective working relationships with the Senior Management Team, colleagues and with external parties.

  • Maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate.

  • Foster a culture of safety, environmental awareness and continuous improvement.

    Requirements:

  • Experience of Environmental Permitting and dealing with the Environment Agency is essential

  • CoTC qualification (desirable but not essential; related experience / skills considered)

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (desirable but not essential; related experience / skills considered)

  • Flexibility for travel between sites.

  • Previous experience with ISO 9001, 14001 and / or 45001.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)

  • Valid UK Driving License.

  • Key Skills:

  • Attention to detail.

  • Effective communication (written and verbal)

  • Experience in managing a team.

  • Interpersonal skills for professional liaisons

  • Strong organisational abilities.
