Supervisory responsibility for (Level 1 Supervisor): Supervisor Level 1

Purpose of Job

  • You have expert knowledge and skills in the latest Business Intelligence technologies and will work closely with the business when designing, prototyping and delivering new creative and innovative BI solutions.
  • You will work closely with customers across the company to enhance our organisation by designing and developing BI solutions that will form a central resource to give WCC and its partners effective and timely information to support service improvement and statutory reporting. You will be given plenty of opportunity to explore your creativity, utilise your skills and gain many more.
  • The post‑holder will consult with Service Managers and staff to provide advice on BI solutions, including dashboards, reports and extracts of data for WCC and partner agencies.

Main Activities & Responsibilities

  • Lead in the designing, prototyping and delivering of creative and innovative BI solutions for the customer based on the business requirements
  • Matrix management of BI Developer and Management Information Analysts within the team
  • Provide expert knowledge and guidance to teams and people on technical best practice
  • Effectively communicate business requirements clearly to the team to ensure joint understanding. Facilitate requirements elaboration & user story backlog creation and management.
  • Lead in the implementation of the agile methodology process within the team and be instrumental in educating other areas of the business
  • Collaborate and partner with all parts and levels of the organisation as an expert technical advisor for creative and innovative BI solutions
  • Lead in the application of agile techniques to ensure digital solutions meet the requirements of both the business and the user, providing simple, functional, flawless and quick delivery
  • Lead on increasing customer satisfaction and engagement by delivering world class BI solutions
  • Research and identify BI options for existing and new services to aid service improvement
  • Design and Deliver digital solutions using your expert knowledge of SSRS and SQL
  • Maintain and apply up to date, specialist knowledge of database concepts, object and data modelling techniques and design principles and assist BI developers in these areas
  • Lead on the production & development of BI solutions for services that will be fully functional across all devices
  • Provide secure information provision and be aware of developments in security requirements
  • Maintain a working knowledge of relevant BI developments and technologies

Experience

It is essential that the post holder is



  • Expert in designing, prototyping, building and testing BI solutions to deliver world class customer experience
  • Expert in system integration
  • Expert in agile development and management methods
  • Substantial experience in a variety of BI technologies
  • Substantial experience of matrix management of staff and project members
  • Substantial experience of collaborating and partnering with a wide range of staff
  • Substantial experience of creating BI solutions that work across all devices

It is desirable that the post holder has:



  • Experience of other public sector organisations
  • Experience in using SQL databases

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential

  • Expert ability in interpreting business requirements
  • Expert ability to design and prototype BI solutions
  • Advanced knowledge of a variety of BI applications and technologies e.g. SSRS, SQL
  • Expert ability to self‑manage and matrix manage others
  • Expert in agile development techniques
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Desirable

  • Demonstrable skills in extracting data from Microsoft SQL Server databases using SQL and SSRS
  • Demonstrable skills in extracting, transferring, and loading data into a SQL Server database from a variety of sources
  • Demonstrable skills in construction technical solutions to extract and present data in a variety of formats

Qualifications / Training & Development
Essential

  • A relevant degree that contains technical/programming skills or equivalent experience
  • Matrix management or evidence of equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Training in agile development methods or evidence of equivalent experience
  • Certification in Microsoft technologies, particularly SQL
  • Certification on Agile development techniques
