Base pay range

We are seeking an experienced individual to support internal departments within a Higher Education environment, providing support to the implementation and ongoing operation of Research Systems, Worktribe, Symplectic Elements and Figshare and their constituent modules, including:

  1. Investigating and resolving intermediate-level system queries from colleagues
  2. Using appropriate tools to export data
  3. Informing and monitoring data integrity processes
  4. Writing and maintaining test plans
  5. Drafting and maintaining various system-related documents, including processes and standard operating procedures
  6. Working closely with project and internal teams to ensure timely delivery of configuration tasks required for the implementation of systems.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. The role will receive and deal with user support queries and issues that are received from system users
  2. Drafts business processes and standard operating procedures as required
  3. Supports the Research Systems Training Officer to perform ad-hoc training of system users as required
  4. Adds new users/positions to existing roles in Research Systems as required
  5. Creates new non-standard users in Research Systems as required
  6. Maintains role/permission groups as required
  7. Maintains intermediate-level system configuration, while adhering to strict change control processes, e.g. changes to workflows as directed by the Business Owner, monitoring data flows and identifying data issues
  8. Carries out the system upgrade processes, as required
  9. Reviews the administrator dashboards and investigates configuration clashes
  10. Informs data integrity exception check processes by identifying areas for additional checks, training needs and/or amending processes as required
  11. Assists relevant departments to review release notes for system upgrades/patches to determine testing requirements and correctly allocate resource
  12. Writes/maintains appropriate test plans to ensure end-to-end processes remain intact after system changes
  13. Miscellaneous system administration tasks: e.g. maintaining user types and access controls.
  14. Writes ‘Ad Hoc Queries’ in Worktribe and Elements and creates ‘variants’ (filters) on standard reports, as required
  15. Exports data from Worktribe and Elements, in order to manipulate with pivot tables to produce relevant summary information, or to prepare relevant import files for Head of Department, Product Manager or Business Owner.
  16. Runs reports out of Worktribe and Elements as required

Position Requirements

  • A Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
  • Experienced in providing application support for administrative systems, including resolving technical queries and errors, carrying out routine maintenance and configuration activity, undertaking system testing and manipulating data
  • Previous role that included providing input into process design and drafting system-related documentation
  • Experience of supporting Worktribe, Elements and/or other Research Management systems
  • Detailed knowledge of Research systems and Research Management business processes
  • Up-to-date knowledge of legislation governing Research Grants and Data Management legislation including GDPR
  • Well-developed analytical, problem solving and data manipulation skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft detailed technical documents (e.g. test plans) and develop support materials for non-technical users (e.g. presentations, user guides)
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
  • Ability to deal with complex technical issues in a timely, accurate and effective way
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisation skills
