Department Overview:

The Desk Strat technology team are responsible for building and maintain trading tools both bespoke to pods and general to a desk. They predominantly develop tools in Python leveraging core analytic and database frameworks and face off to business partners directly. The team sits within the Front office technology group which also contains Quant Research and the Risk and Data Technology teams.

Role Overview:

The primary focus of this role is to face off to the rates and commodity trading desks to build out a financial analysis toolkit that leverages AI. This toolkit will be used by traders and desk analysts alike to develop trading strategies and manage risk.

Many of these tools will be quite tactical at first and will require the candidate to have real world experience leveraging cloud based LLM API offerings and integrated database solutions. The successful candidate will be expected to help drive the firms AI strategy and produce scalable template solutions that others can follow, allowing other quantitative developers to leverage LLMs in a consistent cost-effective way.

The role will ultimately face off to the lead rates analyst, who has developed many of the existing AI research tools used by the desk. These tools need enhancing and generalizing, plus dedicated focus to improve and develop new solutions as the ever-changing world or AI offerings matures. The candidate will be expected to deliver working tools according to the desks requirements quickly and efficiently often turning around solutions in hours, working extremely closely with desk in response to the fast-changing financial market conditions.

This position will be extremely pivotal to the company, working closely with cyber security and infrastructure to onboard new AI providers and provision new services. As well as stay abreast of all of the latest development methods to drive the firms AI strategy forward practically.

Experience Required:

  • Python, LLM integration (such as open AI), Development orchestration tooling (svn/git/automated deployment), Database development Sql / NoSql (MSSql / Mongo).
  • Prior experience programming with practical AI / LLM api usage.
  • A strong mathematical / computational degree or PhD ideally with some exposure to ML techniques.
  • C# (or other oo based language), Financial engineering, command line scripting (Windows/Linux).

About you:

In this role you must be self-motivated and able to face off to senior business users on the trading desks.You must be articulate and able to gather requirements, design elegant but pragmatic solutions and implement them through to release.

This is a highly technical role, and you will be driven by solving technical challenges finding practical solutions to problems and seeing your work released into production.

With the fast-changing AI environment it is important that the firm’s strategy is flexible and you will be help drive that by having an interest in and staying abreast of all the latest enhancements and tooling available in the market.
