Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be recruiting an Income Officer on a full-time, temporary basis for North Hertfordshire Council.

The Role

Assisting with the daily reconciliation of Cashier System input/output and reconciliation to the financial system. Responsible for the daily processing and authoring of all forms of income to the authority including cash, Direct Debits/Credits and Debit and Credit Card payments. Responsible for the transfer of Sales Ledger files by BACS. Directly responsible for maintaining suspense accounts, processing refunds and the investigation of payment enquiries, including liaising with the bank and Northgate, where required. Provides systems advice and service support to service areas. Responsible for assisting in the administration of the Council’s Cashiering function. To work closely and in partnership with the Controls Risk & Performance Team

The Experience you will bring

  • Extensive understanding of PCI/DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard), ensuring card data integrity.

  • Extensive knowledge of computer software including MS Office applications

  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy

  • Excellent Communication Skills –Proven ability to deal comfortably with suppliers & customers to provide a helpful and understanding service.

  • To be able to communicate accurately to Management & Members

  • Experience of working in a pressurised environment

  • Ability to deal with difficult situations which may become stressful either to you or to the customer, either internal or external and suppliers.

  • Track record of working unsupervised and use own initiative where there is not a comprehensive procedure note, and take responsibility for actions

  • Experience of identifying process or service weaknesses and the development options for their improvement

  • Ability to develop and implement procedures

  • Experience of working in the team environment

  • Operational – Knowledge of banking and cash collection procedures

  • Experience of working in a cash collection environment, and experience of dealing with vat
