Main responsibilities
EDFT is one of the leading gas traders in Europe on its own account, its North American subsidiary is one of the leading gas traders in North America, and its joint venture Jera Global Markets is one of the world’s largest traders in LNG. At the same time, gas, especially LNG, is playing an increasingly central role in energy markets, as the volume of LNG increases and provides crucial flexibility to help global energy markets to balance.
EDFT aims to play a leading role in global gas trading, building on the opportunity provided by EDFT’s existing assets and the increasingly central role of gas in energy markets, To this end, EDFT has just reorganised its gas trading business, bringing all of its gas trading teams into one team.
We are looking for a dynamic, ambitious and experienced gas analyst to lead EDFT’s Gas Analytics team to support EDFT gas trading with a well-informed and comprehensive view on gas balances, clear and well-founded trading ideas based on robust quantitative analysis, and industry leading analytics.
Key responsibilities of this role include:
Reporting to the Head of Analytics, lead a team of 10 gas analysts and data engineers, setting their objectives, ensuring delivery of the agreed outputs, maintaining and assuring the quality of output, and supporting the professional development of the team. Maintain and further develop EDFT’s proprietary gas market models in order to provide an up-to-date and comprehensive view on European and global gas balances Develop profitable trading ideas based on analysis of fundamentals and market information Maintain a superior level of quantitative rigor in analysis and closely monitor accuracy of analytical output over time. Develop tools to monitor market developments and implied gas balances. Effectively communicate views and findings to gas traders and analysts, and to other EDFT traders, analysts and management. Represent EDFT’s view on the gas market to external audiences, including on marketing trips to clients in Europe and Asia Work collaboratively with senior colleagues across analytics and other EDFT analytics to produce integrated energy analysis Willingness to be flexible and adjust to changing conditions – the list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be subject to change!
Experience required
At least 10 years of experience in a gas analytics role Substantive experience of leading a team of analysts Knowledge of statistical analysis and other quantitative techniques
Technical requirements
Advanced degree in engineering, sciences, math, finance, or economics or equivalent experience or relevant real world experience Proficient in Python for data analytics. Knowledge of other widely used programmes, including Excel and SQL, is welcomed.
