The Opportunity

Global Specialty is building a best-in-class global construction practice, creating a 5th major product line within Global Specialty. As the Global Head of Construction, you will report to the Global Head of Specialty and lead all product minor lines and set the Global P&L strategy, executing against growth and profitability goals and objectives. You will drive underwriting excellence across Construction by establishing and ensuring adherence to risk appetite, line setting, standards and guidelines, and ensuring rating and pricing adequacy. This is a rare opportunity to identify and recommend new markets, products, services and tools, as well as marketing distribution & underwriting strategies to execute against exciting growth plans.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Direct and lead underwriting teams.
  • Be responsible for setting & driving business strategy for Global Construction.
  • Set Global P&L – execute against growth and profitability goals and objectives.
  • Drive underwriting excellence across Construction by establishing and ensuring adherence to risk appetite, line setting, standards and guidelines, and ensure rating and pricing adequacy.
  • Identify and recommend new markets, products, services and tools, as well as marketing distribution & Underwriting Strategies.
  • Create regular and ongoing communication with the various geographies to promote best practices, share strategic insights and create a community of interest across the various minor lines.
  • Ensure an effective reinsurance strategy that supports our risk appetite for per risk and aggregation across all product lines, as well as active management of the portfolio.
  • Understand the Specialty business model, underwriting methodology, and the risks we assume.
  • Establish strong relationships with global Specialty regional and functional leadership; create mutual understanding of overall specialty strategy to drive effective execution of business model.
  • Develop tools and strategies, in collaboration with HR, to attract and retain top industry talent and develop high performing teams.
  • Drive a culture that promotes collaboration and inclusion.
  • Ensure a reputation of Claims excellence in the marketplace.
  • Demonstrate understanding of regulatory and compliance processes and ensure AIG stakeholders are informed.

Technical Skills and Expertise:

  • Substantial insurance leadership experience, including oversight over multiple products and geographies.
  • Deep expertise in the above-mentioned specialty lines, expert technical underwriting background.
  • Knowledge of market segmentation, portfolio management, acquisition, and distribution.
  • Proven Strategic Leadership skills in developing vision and purpose, driving for results and leading effective teams.
  • Established strong relationships with customers and intermediaries.
  • Skilled leader of change; versatile, client focused, results oriented.
  • Demonstrated business savvy, analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills, experience of working with senior global leadership teams.
