Analytical Scientist

KPMG’s FS Forensic Financial Services practice is a key contributor to the Firm’s strategic growth initiatives. We have achieved rapid year-on-year growth since the team’s inception and have set ourselves ambitious targets to maintain the momentum. We possess a strong pipeline of work for the year ahead and continue to develop innovative market-leading solutions for our clients. We now need an experienced and dependable Manager to assist in converting the existing pipeline, expand it with our current offerings and to develop Data Analytics propositions.

Our managers are responsible for managing the delivery of a range of financial crime projects with a particular focus on Data Analytics. Each project will generally incorporate a review and assessment of the current state of compliance, discussing matters directly with the client, proposing and delivering solutions and providing oral presentations. They will be expected to collaborate across FS Consulting to deliver the best solutions for our clients.

The role will also involve the opportunity to take a leading role in our growing team of Data Analytics specialists, supporting the delivery of a range of financial crime projects and delivering comprehensive and well-considered solutions to clients’ challenges. A core part of the role will also include leveraging your industry contacts, skills and experience to contribute to winning work and knowledge sharing and practice development across the team.

Description of the role:

As part of our Forensic team focusing on Data Analytics, you can expect to be responsible for the following deliverables:

Project Delivery

  • Managing financial crime engagements or projects from scoping, analysis, and execution of the project, through to reporting (including delivery workstreams focusing on data modelling).
  • Managing the risk and commercial aspects involved in the delivery of projects including budgets, planning and project governance.
  • Take accountability for the successful delivery of engagement outputs and Client outcomes.
  • Provide structure and direction to the delivery of engagement activities.
  • Support relationships between Vendors and Clients to translate system ‘jargon’ into business terminology.
  • Build positive and collaborative relationships with senior Client stakeholders.
  • Facilitate collaborative and fulfilling working environments for the Client and KPMG staff on engagements.
  • Managing and mentoring more junior colleagues from diverse backgrounds during projects and as part of the KPMG appraisal process.

Business Development

  • Build and leverage both internal and external relationships to support senior stakeholders to contribute to business development opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development of responses for proposals (RFPs) to Client opportunities.
  • Develop innovative and Client-focused go-to-market propositions.

Practice Development

  • Support senior management with internal operational responsibilities for the team.
  • Lead practice development initiatives and provide guidance to junior members of the team on these initiatives.
  • Lead and/or contribute to formal training, knowledge sharing, and networking activities for the team.
  • Act as informal career development mentor and coach for junior members of the team.
  • Contributing to the firm’s talent agenda, managing, and working effectively in diverse teams and helping to foster an inclusive culture where people are recognised for their contribution.
  • Supporting the ambition of the team to be the leading forensic analytics experts in the UK and beyond, through growing the team to enable development of a broad range of quality client relationships across all industries and through the adoption of both cutting-edge and well-established technologies.

The candidate should expect to work on a variety of project-based work over a cross-section of Financial Services industries and geographies.

As a Manager within the team, you will be responsible for the management of a portfolio of Data Analytics work through your role as well as proactively contributing to the growth of the Forensic service line through business and proposition development. You will establish yourself as a subject matter expert and build a strong internal and external network.

Leadership and Management– Providing technical knowledge, coaching and training to junior team members. Ensures effective engagement management by achieving the required realisation, revenue and profitability targets. May participate in day-to-day management of the team on engagements including coaching, providing constructive feedback and performance development.

Impact, Risk, Accountability & Governance– Managing one or more client engagements or components of large-scale engagements of moderate complexity. Managers communicate risk and issues early to Engagement Leaders as appropriate.

The Person:

  • Experience of the risk management processes, systems and controls relating to financial crime.
  • Knowledge of key components of a risk management framework, including policies, risk appetite, risk assessments, controls (monitoring, screening, etc).
  • Technical knowledge of financial crime regulatory expectations and market practice, with depth across one or more of:
  • Sanctions
  • Anti-bribery & Corruption
  • Facilitation of Tax Evasion
  • Experience in at least two coding languages (e.g. SQL, Python, C#)
  • Understanding of data integration and reporting tools (SSIS, SSRS, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experience/exposure in working within Agile teams.
  • Broad experience, with examples of delivering client work focusing on advanced analytics services.
  • Ability to manage small teams and develop others.
  • Self-starting, pro-active team player that is experienced in delivering technology-enabled solutions.
  • Ability to create and deliver engaging reports/presentations and output reviews to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong management and people skills – flexibility to operate in small or large teams for short or long projects.
  • Confident individuals who can quickly establish credibility with clients and are able to manage both small and large teams.
  • Proven ability to manage diverse and multi-cultural teams drawn from various parts of the organisation and backgrounds.
  • Proactive individual who can work with different stakeholders and adapt well to changing deadlines.
  • An enthusiasm to get involved in marketing activity and in developing the Forensic practice.

The Job Description:

  • Managing a portfolio of client engagements and being responsible for the high-quality end-to-end and timely delivery of services to our clients.
  • Managing financial crime engagements or projects from scoping, analysis, and execution of the project, through to reporting (including delivery workstreams focusing on data modelling) using technical financial crime knowledge (across transaction and fraud monitoring, transaction and customer screening and customer due diligence) and data analytics experience.
  • Leading the end-to-end testing of Financial crime systems.
  • Scoping, financial management, managing delivery risk, production and review of deliverables.
  • Building and maintaining excellent client relationships to bolster the sale of FS Forensic services.
  • Actively identifying and progressing business development opportunities, as well as leading sales activities such as client and engagement risk management, proposal writing and leading client presentations.
  • Developing the FS Forensic proposition in line with market expectations.
  • Taking responsibility for knowledge development of the team by providing coaching and developing junior team members.
