This role is pivotal to the success of the finance function, combining hands-on financial reporting with strategic partnership and business-critical decision support. The Role

  • Lead the full month-end and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with IFRS across the group, including the primary trading entity and four subsidiary companies.

  • Drive improvements in monthly close procedures, internal control frameworks, and financial reporting outputs to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

  • Prepare high-quality consolidated financial statements and manage all aspects of internal controls, intercompany eliminations, and reconciliation processes.

  • Collaborate with the CFO and Head of Finance to coordinate tax computations and the preparation of statutory returns for all UK entities.

  • Ensure full compliance with tax and regulatory reporting requirements, including VAT, corporation tax, and other statutory obligations.

  • Oversee the monitoring and management of working capital, liquidity positions, and associated financial ratios to support operational stability and growth.

  • Design and implement a robust internal control environment, including financial policies and procedures, across trading and operational functions.

  • Work closely with trading, logistics, and operations teams to deliver clear and actionable financial insights that inform strategic and operational decision-making.

  • Support the CFO and FP&A function in preparing budgets, forecasts, and scenario models to guide financial planning and performance management.

  • Act as the key point of contact for external auditors, banking partners, and tax advisers, ensuring a smooth and compliant audit and advisory process.

  • Contribute to finance systems optimisation and lead initiatives to automate and streamline reporting and control processes.

    What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with 5–7 years’ experience in a financial control or finance business partner role.

  • Prior experience in the commodities trading or Industrial materials sector, Raw materials processing industry is highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of financial instruments, hedging, inventory accounting, and FX exposure.

  • Familiarity with mark-to-market accounting is a plus.

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, with experience using automation tools and business intelligence (BI) reporting systems.

  • Solid working knowledge of ERP platforms; experience with Microsoft Dynamics (Navision) is highly advantageous.

  • Hands-on, proactive mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with a collaborative and solutions-focused approach.
