Data Science and Analytics Senior Business Analyst

Salary:National ranging from £51,200 to £64,500 and London from £56,400 to £70,000

The team/department
The Advanced Analytics and Data Science Units (AA&DSUs) is a department within the Intelligence & Digital (I&D) division of Data, Technology & Innovation (DTI). AA&DSUs contains a unique mix of data scientists, AI strategists, engineers, change experts, designers, and business analysts. This role forms part of the Business Consulting & Pipeline (BC&P) team which is a key component of the Advanced Analytics & Data Science Units Transformation team.

What you will be doing (the role)

  1. Identify data science opportunities: support at least one data science unit/strategic programme of work, co-owning the front end of the project lifecycle to identify and scope project ideas that can be solved with data science.
  2. Conduct discovery workshops: design and deliver workshops with stakeholders from across the FCA to better understand their pain points, explore their processes, and identify if/how data science can help.
  3. Convert business requirements into solutions: capture and translate user pain points into functional and non-functional requirements, working collaboratively to generate an appropriate solution.
  4. Shape strategic direction: help management in shaping the strategic direction of core programmes of work, including defining scope, identifying key stakeholders, and providing recommendations on areas/business problems to work on based on strategic value and organisational goals.
  5. Manage pipeline of projects: co-own with management and report on your assigned pipeline of data science projects, including scoping with data scientists and prioritising projects with the highest strategic alignment and business value into delivery.
  6. Develop ways of working: share your business analyst skills with the wider department and continuously contribute to the development of best practice approaches and assets within the BC&P team (process map, project scope, business case, user journey, stakeholder map, solution requirements, etc.).

  4. Stimulating, innovative and experimental work: the department is tasked with leveraging data science to solve some of the biggest problems facing financial regulation (AI, financial crime, and consumer duty).

We support hybrid working which means you will be able to work from home up to 60% of the time over a month with the remainder of your time in one of our three office locations.

The skills and experience you will have

Minimum

  1. Proven experience of working as a Senior Business Analyst or similar role(s) Consultant, Solution/Service Design or Product Owner.
  2. Evidence of Senior Business Analyst experience (or similar role) within any of the following types of organisations/sectors: data science, advanced analytics, tech/IT consultancy, fintech, technology/innovation.
  3. Experience of delivering through the full project lifecycle including a range of waterfall and agile methodologies.
  4. Experience with collaborative problem solving and analysing a range of information sources to identify an appropriate approach for the situation.
  5. Ability to quickly cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  6. Deliver quality outputs at pace in both structured and fluid project environments.
  7. A pragmatic approach to getting things done and an ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  8. Effectively communicating key project outcomes/insights to a range of stakeholders, flexing communication style and medium according to the situation.
  9. Running discovery/blue sky thinking/ideation workshops with a range of stakeholders (levels, roles, backgrounds).
  10. Scoping projects/products and creating relevant assets (process map, project scope, business case, user journey, stakeholder map, solution requirements etc.).
  11. A growth mindset with a strong desire to learn and build on existing skills.
