Affinity Water are investing in a Digital Transformation Programme to enhance the way we engage with our customers. We have a new 18-month fixed-term contract for a Data Migration Business Lead to manage data migration and lead integration and analysis activities as we implement a Master Customer Data System. This pivotal role involves re-platforming a website and migrating multiple data feeds from legacy systems into a new platform.

The role

As the Data Migration Business Lead, you will be responsible for defining and embedding the Data Migration Strategy and Plan. You will work closely with Technology, Data Governance, Data Quality teams, and suppliers to deliver a migration process that aligns with customer requirements and compliance standards while minimising operational disruption.

This role requires a blend of technical expertise, business acumen, and leadership skills, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance while championing the customer experience.

Key ResponsibilitiesDefine and Embed the Data Migration Strategy and Plan

  • Lead the business migration workstream, working with product owners, project managers, and technical teams to define the scope, approach, timeline, and risks of data migration.
  • Support the design and execution of customer data migration processes from legacy systems to the new Master Customer Data System, ensuring data is accurate, secure, and meets quality standards.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to data migration, including data loss, corruption, and security breaches, and develop action plans to resolve issues promptly.

Stakeholder Engagement and Governance

  • Identify and engage with business stakeholders, providing updates on risks and remediation plans.
  • Represent business migration activities within the programme governance framework.
  • Act as a liaison between technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure data-related risks and controls are understood and addressed effectively.

Data Mapping and Migration Alignment

  • Work with business SMEs to align business processes with product requirements, ensuring data availability for testing and controls.

Testing & Reconciliation Strategy

  • Define and oversee test plans and user acceptance testing, ensuring proper validation, reconciliation, and sign-off from business users.

Cutover and Go-Live Readiness

  • Develop a detailed cutover plan for the final migration, ensuring all business readiness criteria are met.
  • Provide post-migration support to ensure a smooth transition.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Document all control processes, policies, data migration steps, and integration activities in alignment with governance standards.
  • Create detailed reports on data integrity, control effectiveness, and migration progress for senior management and project stakeholders.
  • Support audit and review processes by maintaining comprehensive documentation on control adherence and data management activities.

Qualifications & Experience required

  • Experience in data migration or data management, particularly within large-scale system migration projects.
  • Ability to grasp complex business and operational processes and translate them into migration specifications.
  • Experience with change management methodologies and business process analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of data development and data governance principles.
  • Experience in business re-engineering principles and processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products and working knowledge of data management tools.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and management skills.
