Blair West have been retained to support One Utility Bill in a search for a Data Engineer. This fast-growing tech business is transforming the way households manage their bills, bundling them into a single monthly payment for ease and simplicity. As part of their ongoing expansion, this newly created role will sit within the Development team and work closely across the business, including with Growth, Finance, and Operations, to elevate their data capability and self-service insights. The opportunity:

  • Design, build and own robust data pipelines, ingesting data from production systems and APIs into BigQuery.
  • Maintain and evolve the company’s data models to support dashboards, reports, and operational tools.
  • Build data visualisations and reports for business-critical teams, including Finance, Growth, and Operations.
  • Handle ad hoc data analysis requests and contribute to cross-functional data projects.
  • Implement and advocate for best practices in documentation, data governance, and version control.
  • Shape the Data function for the business, simplifying complexity, working through ambiguity, and striving for excellence at all times.
  • Explore and recommend new tools, technologies, and approaches to enhance the organisation's data capabilities.
  • Partner with DevOps and Engineering to ensure the infrastructure is secure, scalable, and reliable.

You’ll be the ideal candidate for this position if you have:

  • Advanced SQL skills with strong experience using relational databases.
  • Hands-on experience with BigQuery or a similar large-scale analytics platform.
  • Proficiency in Python or R, including libraries like Pandas.
  • Experience working with BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or Mode.
  • Confidence working in Jupyter or similar notebook environments.
  • A solid grasp of ETL processes and associated best practices.
  • Familiarity with Git, Agile workflows, and DevOps tooling is advantageous.
  • Exposure to customer/product analytics (e.g., churn, cohorts, LTV) is a bonus.
  • Experience in a data-focused role for 2+ years, ideally within a tech environment.
