Role Overview:

As a Data Engineer for the Police Department, you will play a crucial role in designing, building, and maintaining the systems and processes that allow the department to leverage data effectively. Your work will enable police officers and analysts to make data-driven decisions to enhance public safety, improve operational efficiency, and support investigative activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimise ETL processes for large-scale data integration.
  • Maintain databases for integrity, security, and performance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create reports, dashboards, and insights.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection laws (e.g., GDPR).
  • Provide support and training on data tools and systems.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of database management systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL) and data warehousing.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
  • Experience with ETL tools and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
  • Familiarity with data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and reporting.
  • Understanding of data security practices and regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
