About Autotrader

You’ve probably heard of Autotrader, but do you know what we’re all about? At Autotrader, our leadership team has a clear vision of building a data and technology platform that underpins the automotive industry.

We’re the UK’s leading automotive marketplace, a heritage brand, and a tech darling of the stock market. We bring together vehicle buyers and sellers to give them real choices. Cars may be what we're best known for but we’re also the place for pretty much everything else on wheels, from e-bikes to caravans.

In the automotive world, change is a constant, that’s why we take our job of untangling the complex car-buying journey very seriously.

At our core, we’re all about people. We go our own way while embracing diversity and celebrating our differences. We dedicate ourselves to the idea that we work better together.

Autotrader is a beautiful, surprising and vibrant place to work. We might not be for everyone, but we could be perfect for you.

About The Job

Our people-centred culture and design, tech, and data expertise makes us one of the UK's leading automotive marketplace and a great place to continue your career as a Data Analyst.

As an analytics expert, you will develop data products and solve analytical problems that drive decisions key to achieving your team’s objectives. Our data analysts work in cross-functional teams with software engineers, data scientists, and product leads, so you will be collaborating with a team with a diverse set of skills and personalities. These teams work together to develop insight-driven, market-leading digital products and services.

Data Analysts are embedded in teams across Auto Trader that prioritise work that contributes to our core business objectives. Upcoming projects include working with our Commercial Finance team to optimise pricing and design key business metrics, or with our digital products teams to understand and measure consumer and partner behaviour.

You will engage with stakeholders, challenge assumptions when designing analyses, and enable data-driven decision-making. You will be supported by a Senior or Principal Data Analyst who will help you prioritise work and provide review of methods. You will collaborate with other Analysts, Engineers and Scientists in your team, using developer practices such as pairing to share knowledge and carry out robust work.

Our data analysts work with a powerful cloud computing stack and are expected to know or learn how to contribute in this environment. We provide in-house training for our business intelligence, cloud data warehousing, and big data analytics tooling. Our data analysts are:

  • Familiar with statistical and data science methods, such as machine learning, so that they can spot opportunities for data science.
  • Confident developing in our cloud data warehouse using SQL and automation tools.
  • Experienced in using business intelligence tools to create dashboards that enable efficient workflows, and promote self-service insight.

Discover more about our Analytics Community in our blog and explore how we use analytics and machine learning in our Engineering Blog.

You might think being a car enthusiast is a must for this role, but that’s not the case!

What We're Looking For

  • Experience doing data analysis in a commercial environment
  • A good understanding of statistical topics and the ability to explain them to non-technical stakeholders. For example, this would include hypothesis testing and linear regression
  • Experience planning and completing analytical tasks on time, being responsible for gathering and defining analysis requirements, and having the courage to challenge misconceptions
  • Confidence analysing data with a programming language (e.g. Python, R)
  • Confidence delivering insight through good visualisation practices and compelling storytelling
  • An ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams with a diverse set of skills and prioritise input from a range of stakeholders
  • We also encourage applications from candidates with digital analytics experience, such as implementing enterprise-level tracking (e.g. Google 360 or Snowplow) and delivering robust AB/multi-variant testing projects

Benefits

We’re offering a salary of £35,000 – £60,000 dependent on skills and experience, plus an additional 10% of your salary awarded to you in shares each year. These awarded shares will become yours in yearly instalments over the next three years, and you can choose to either sell them or keep them as shares.

You'll have 28 days holiday per year, and that's in addition to bank holidays and half day closures on Christmas and New Year's Eve.

That’s not all. We have employee pension contributions up to 7%, comprehensive private medical cover, enhanced family leave provisions, a car salary sacrifice scheme, share-save options, and much more.

We always want to give you the support you need and help prioritise your wellbeing, that’s why we provide access to 24/7 online GP and dentist, as well as specialist support for assisted fertility, gender dysphoria, menopause, period care plans and lots more.

On top of all that, our hybrid model, Connected Working, combines the best of both worlds – office and home working. You’ll have two fixed weekly office days for team collaboration and one more of your choice to suit your work-life balance.

Additionally, we have our remote-first periods at set times during summer and winter. During these periods, you can work remotely anywhere in the UK and from certain locations abroad.
