Job Purpose

To play a key role in the development of Wrexham AFC Medical Performance team, helping to develop strategies and practices to enhance performance programming and player development. The role will work collaboratively across sports science, performance, and medical teams to help develop a ‘best in class’ performance department.


Main Responsibilities


  1. Lead on GPS data collection post training, games, and matchdays, and present this visually to management, players, and the performance department.
  2. Lead on the collection and presentation of wellbeing, player profiling, VBT, and other markers as requested.
  3. Create and optimize processes for extracting and merging data from various platforms.
  4. Lead and develop front-end visuals for the club’s high-performance and Sports Science department.
  5. Accelerate the use of data-driven insights for practitioners via interactive tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
  6. Lead research and innovation within football and elite sports across the Medical Performance and Sports Science departments (technology, services, AI, etc.).
  7. Deliver physical, gym, and recovery sessions as required.
  8. Create a structured internal CPD data insights programme for the wider MDT.
  9. Lead on high-performance insight data integration with Train My Athlete software.
  10. Lead short-term and long-term data-driven projects to identify current performance trends in elite football.
  11. Compile pre-season, in-season, and post-season testing data, ensuring effective and efficient data collection and presentation.

  • This position is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check (Children's Barred List).

About The Candidate
Experience/Qualifications Required


  • BSc/MSc in Sport and Exercise Science, Data Analysis, Performance Analysis, or a relevant field.
  • Previous experience in elite sport.


Skills / Abilities Required


  • Proficient in analytic software packages (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
  • Motivated to improve performance through data analysis, collection, and visualization.
  • Experience with Statsports, VALD technology, and related data points.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure with flexibility in hours and roles.
  • Attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
  • High personal and professional standards.
  • Strong team player.
  • Competent in using IT programs, databases, and online systems.
  • Ability to visually display key data and extract high-level insights.
  • Understanding and commitment to equality and diversity in sport.


Additional Notes

Welsh language skills would be a clear advantage.
