  • Experience working within the Microsoft 365 (MS/O365) ecosystem is highly desirable
  • Good SQL knowledge and data modelling techniques
  • Experience in data quality management, data visualisation, and dashboard design/UX optimisation; candidates are expected to present their portfolio of dashboards created, showcasing their ability to visualise data and extract meaningful insights, including how their dashboards have driven decision‑making and improved business processes
  • Familiarity in Snowflake is a plus
  • Strong communication skills – able to explain complex data concepts to non‑technical stakeholders

  • Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field

Data Architecture & Process Optimisation

  • Define and refine, in coordination with the Data Engineer, semantic data models, workflows, and governance practices
  • Establish and promote data quality and operational excellence through best practices and process improvements

Data Community & Literacy Development

  • Help grow an internal data community to foster collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing
  • Champion data literacy initiatives, training stakeholders on effective data usage and storytelling

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports that deliver real business impact
  • Integrate and manage diverse data sources, ensuring high standards of data quality, consistency, and scalability
  • Oversee the implementation of BI initiatives to support data‑informed decision‑making across departments

What You Will Be Doing

  • Collaborating with stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate them into clear brief
  • Working with Business Sponsors and Data Owners to define, interpret, and simplify complex data requirements, ensuring solutions are aligned with business objectives
  • Designing, building, and maintaining interactive dashboards in Power BI to visualise business metrics and trends
  • Extracting, transforming, and loading data from Snowflake into Power BI for analysis and reporting
  • Creating strong and lean data models to ensure efficient data processing and optimal performance of Power BI dashboards, while supporting scalability and ease of maintenance
  • Using DAX to create calculated measures and columns within Power BI dashboards, enabling advanced analytics and dynamic reporting, including time‑intelligence functions, complex aggregations, and custom KPIs to provide deeper insights into business performance
  • Leveraging Power BI features to allow for the creation of interactive visuals that respond to user input and facilitate more meaningful data exploration
  • Writing and optimising SQL queries to retrieve and manipulate data within Snowflake, ensuring data accuracy and efficiency
  • Conducting data quality checks and liaising with the business to troubleshoot data inconsistencies
  • Presenting findings and dashboard solutions to both technical and non‑technical audiences, supporting data‑driven decision‑making

Why Data Science Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

Data science once meant advanced statistics, machine learning models and coding in Python or R. In the UK today, it has become one of the most in-demand professions across sectors — from healthcare to finance, retail to government. But as the field matures, employers now expect more than technical modelling skills. Modern data science is multidisciplinary. It requires not just coding and algorithms, but also legal knowledge, ethical reasoning, psychological insight, linguistic clarity and human-centred design. Data scientists are expected to interpret, communicate and apply data responsibly, with awareness of law, human behaviour and accessibility. In this article, we’ll explore why data science careers in the UK are becoming more multidisciplinary, how these five disciplines intersect with data science, and what job-seekers & employers need to know to succeed in this transformed field.

Data Science Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Data Science Department

Data science is one of the most in-demand, dynamic, and multidisciplinary areas in the UK tech and business landscape. Organisations from finance, retail, health, government, and beyond are using data to drive decisions, automate processes, personalise services, predict trends, detect fraud, and more. To do that well, companies don’t just need good data scientists; they need teams with clearly defined roles, responsibilities, workflows, collaboration, and governance. If you're aiming for a role in data science or recruiting for one, understanding the structure of a data science department—and who does what—can make all the difference. This article breaks down the key roles, how they interact across the lifecycle of a data science project, what skills and qualifications are typical in the UK, expected salary ranges, challenges, trends, and how to build or grow an effective team.
