We work with agencies and clients to transform the value of data by bringing together technology, data and analytics capabilities. We deliver this through the Open Media Studio, an AI-enabled media and data platform for the next era of advertising.

We’re endlessly curious. Our team of thinkers, builders, creators and problem solvers are over 1,000 strong, across 20 markets around the world.

Role Summary and Impact

As the BI Lead for Data Management, you’ll be asked to take accountability for data and reporting solutions we develop and maintain for clients in one of our most important markets.

In this high-profile and important role, you will lead teams of BI developers and engineers collecting, modeling, and visualizing data in support of dashboards, custom reports, and analytic projects.

In 2026, you will play a key role in the transition of UK clients onto WPP’s Measure platform from legacy platforms (custom developed data warehouses, Datorama, manual reporting).

You will serve as the face of reporting technology and technical work in new business pitches, among agency leadership, and in client-facing meetings.

To do all of this, you must successfully and closely partner with:

  • MM&D teams who write reports and ensure data hygiene
  • Analytics teams who are customers of datasets
  • Activation teams deploying client budgets on media platforms and making data
  • Product teams developing features and integrating workflows across WPP’s Open Media OS
  • Global Business Intelligence teams who will centrally collect and model data for global clients operating in the UK

Skills and Experience

  • Be accountable for the build of custom implementations of the Measure data platform, the coordination across organizations ensuring complete access to data, the leadership of your technical team, and the integration of WPP’s technology into this client’s technical and marketing operations.
  • Own reporting and data provisioning solutions for UK clients, taking direct accountability for the quality of the team’s solutions, representing them to stakeholders, and working with leadership to drive successful adoption
  • Ensure a firsthand understanding of media and analytics team needs, and lead the translation of them into clear and structured requirements
  • Work with clients and media agency stakeholders to establish consensus on the prioritization of requirements for development, using your knowledge of requirements and the technical solution to steer the conversation
  • Lead the design of technical solutions which supplement existing tools to meet requirements, including the scoping and estimation of work to develop
  • Provide strategic coordination and project management across disciplines - from requirements gathering, to deployment, to “business as usual”
  • Hire, train and mentor a team of data engineering / modeling / visualization specialists, ensuring they have the environment to deliver their best work
  • Provide hands‑on leadership, leaning in to support the team with technical direction when needed, and driving continual improvement in the way we ingest, store, transform and visualize data
  • Be the voice of the client within agency and WPP Media technology steering groups, directly influencing the ongoing development of supporting data & technology infrastructure
  • Provide support and training to users of reporting solutions, with the aim of empowering them to be more self‑sufficient in overcoming these issues.

Required

  • Proven experience as a business intelligence or reporting specialists, preferably at a media agency or related company (e.g. publisher, ad tech, client marketing org)
  • Experience designing and developing intuitive data visualizations with business intelligence software (e.g. Tableau, Looker, Datastudio) that empower end users
  • Strong knowledge of using data infrastructure and cloud data management technologies, as well as data prep and ETL processes, to deliver robust data infrastructure
  • Experience with digital marketing platforms and the data they generate, in particular Google Marketing Platform, Facebook, Twitter etc.

  • An ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams, and directly influence others to drive adoption of solutions and overcome upstream barriers to implementation
  • Experience leading, nurturing and coaching high-performing technical resources
  • A passion for data excellence and integrity, and a commitment to supporting others and providing better solutions to support it.
  • Specific experience with Google Cloud Platform, in particular Cloud Storage, Data Prep, BigQuery, AirFlow and Data Studio. Microsoft Azure experience is acceptable.
  • A general understanding of how data is tracked and exchanged in the process of digital advertising.

Data Science Jobs for Career Switchers in Their 30s, 40s & 50s (UK Reality Check)

Thinking about switching into data science in your 30s, 40s or 50s? You’re far from alone. Across the UK, businesses are investing in data science talent to turn data into insight, support better decisions and unlock competitive advantage. But with all the hype about machine learning, Python, AI and data unicorns, it can be hard to separate real opportunities from noise. This article gives you a practical, UK-focused reality check on data science careers for mid-life career switchers — what roles really exist, what skills employers really hire for, how long retraining typically takes, what UK recruiters actually look for and how to craft a compelling career pivot story. Whether you come from finance, marketing, operations, research, project management or another field entirely, there are meaningful pathways into data science — and age itself is not the barrier many people fear.

How to Write a Data Science Job Ad That Attracts the Right People

Data science plays a critical role in how organisations across the UK make decisions, build products and gain competitive advantage. From forecasting and personalisation to risk modelling and experimentation, data scientists help translate data into insight and action. Yet many employers struggle to attract the right data science candidates. Job adverts often generate high volumes of applications, but few applicants have the mix of analytical skill, business understanding and communication ability the role actually requires. At the same time, experienced data scientists skip over adverts that feel vague, inflated or misaligned with real data science work. In most cases, the issue is not a lack of talent — it is the quality and clarity of the job advert. Data scientists are analytical, sceptical of hype and highly selective. A poorly written job ad signals unclear expectations and immature data practices. A well-written one signals credibility, focus and serious intent. This guide explains how to write a data science job ad that attracts the right people, improves applicant quality and positions your organisation as a strong data employer.

Maths for Data Science Jobs: The Only Topics You Actually Need (& How to Learn Them)

If you are applying for data science jobs in the UK, the maths can feel like a moving target. Job descriptions say “strong statistical knowledge” or “solid ML fundamentals” but they rarely tell you which topics you will actually use day to day. Here’s the truth: most UK data science roles do not require advanced pure maths. What they do require is confidence with a tight set of practical topics that come up repeatedly in modelling, experimentation, forecasting, evaluation, stakeholder comms & decision-making. This guide focuses on the only maths most data scientists keep using: Statistics for decision making (confidence intervals, hypothesis tests, power, uncertainty) Probability for real-world data (base rates, noise, sampling, Bayesian intuition) Linear algebra essentials (vectors, matrices, projections, PCA intuition) Calculus & gradients (enough to understand optimisation & backprop) Optimisation & model evaluation (loss functions, cross-validation, metrics, thresholds) You’ll also get a 6-week plan, portfolio projects & a resources section you can follow without getting pulled into unnecessary theory.
