Shape the Enterprise Data Landscape for a National Organisation

We’re partnering with a major UK infrastructure and services business undergoing significant digital and data transformation. With millions of customers and complex operational environments, data is central to how they drive efficiency, safety and customer experience.

This is a rare opportunity to own and define the enterprise-wide data architecture for a truly large-scale organisation, shaping how data is governed, structured and leveraged for years to come.

The Opportunity

As the Enterprise Data Architect, you’ll be the strategic lead for data architecture across the business — setting vision, standards and direction, while still remaining hands‑on with modelling and solution design.

You’ll work at the intersection of technology, business and engineering, ensuring that data is high‑quality, trusted, secure and accessible across the enterprise. Your influence will directly support major transformation programmes and the organisation’s journey towards becoming fully data‑driven.

This is the ideal role for someone who wants to build and own an enterprise data function with real breadth, visibility and impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and deliver the Enterprise Data Strategy and Roadmap, aligned to business goals
  • Own and evolve the Enterprise Data Model, driving consistency and standardisation
  • Design modern, scalable architectures including data lakes, warehouses, real‑time and streaming platforms
  • Lead frameworks for data governance, MDM, metadata, lineage, quality, security and retention
  • Chair enterprise data forums, ensuring alignment across programmes and technology teams
  • Provide architectural leadership, assurance and direction across major transformation initiatives
  • Act as the organisation’s senior data authority, influencing decision‑makers and shaping best practice

About You

You’ll thrive here if you enjoy both strategy and hands‑on architecture and want to drive real enterprise change.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Significant experience as an Enterprise Data Architect in a complex or regulated environment
  • Strong expertise in data modelling, integration, ETL and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP)
  • Deep knowledge of governance, MDM, metadata management and regulatory frameworks
  • Experience implementing enterprise catalogues (e.g. Collibra, Informatica, Atlan)
  • Familiarity with modern data architectures (Medallion, Data Mesh, Lambda etc.)
  • Strong understanding of streaming and processing tools (e.g. Kafka, Spark)
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and confidently lead governance forums
  • Experience with operational or customer‑facing environments is beneficial

Why Apply?

  • Competitive salary + bonus + car allowance
  • Highly attractive pension contributions
  • Hybrid and flexible working
  • 32+ days annual leave including public holidays
  • You’ll join an organisation that is genuinely investing in data, with leadership support and the scale to do meaningful, enterprise‑level architectural work.

Our Commitment

We’re committed to building an inclusive, diverse and supportive technology community. If you’re excited by the impact you could make — even if you don’t meet every requirement — we encourage you to apply.

How to Apply

If you’re an Enterprise Data Architect looking for a role where your decisions shape the entire organisation’s data future, we’d love to hear from you.

Apply online and the team will be in touch if your profile aligns.

How Many Data Science Tools Do You Need to Know to Get a Data Science Job?

If you’re trying to break into data science — or progress your career — it can feel like you are drowning in names: Python, R, TensorFlow, PyTorch, SQL, Spark, AWS, Scikit-learn, Jupyter, Tableau, Power BI…the list just keeps going. With every job advert listing a different combination of tools, many applicants fall into a trap: they try to learn everything. The result? Long tool lists that sound impressive — but little depth to back them up. Here’s the straight-talk version most hiring managers won’t explicitly tell you: 👉 You don’t need to know every data science tool to get hired. 👉 You need to know the right ones — deeply — and know how to use them to solve real problems. Tools matter, but only in service of outcomes. So how many data science tools do you actually need to know to get a job? For most job seekers, the answer is not “27” — it’s more like 8–12, thoughtfully chosen and well understood. This guide explains what employers really value, which tools are core, which are role-specific, and how to focus your toolbox so your CV and interviews shine.
