Data Science in Action Ep.1 – Youth, Crime and Education

Join us on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM GMT for the first episode in our Data Science in Action mini-series, hosted by the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics (LIDA). The project, funded by the ESRC Vulnerability and Policing Futures Research Centre, will help authorities address emerging crime trends and neighbourhood-specific challenges.

  • Talk 2: Understanding the Wider Determinants Associated with Looked After Children in Bradford by Sadiq BalogunThis research uses data to investigate patterns of children entering social care in Bradford, aiming to understand the broader determinants that lead to children being placed in care and informing preventative policies.

  • Talk 3: Educational Trajectories to NEET Status by Lewis ShawThis project examines how early childhood factors such as school readiness, academic performance, and absences contribute to later NEET status, using advanced statistical models for a deeper understanding of these interconnected risk factors.

Each talk will be followed by a 10-minute Q&A, allowing you to dive deeper into the insights and methodologies discussed.
