Job Description

We are looking for a Transport Modeller and Data Analyst. You may be a graduate looking for your first job or already have some experience and looking to take a step-up into a mid-level position. You will have excellent analytical skills and a desire to generate insights and drive improvement through modelling and data analysis. The role could be based from our Farnborough, Hampshire office in the UK, or from our Zilina office in Slovakia, and would suit an ambitious and enthusiastic candidate. You would join a small group of passionate industry experts within a well-established and successful aviation consultancy. 

 

As a Transport Modelling Consultant, you will have opportunities carry out a range of roles on local, national and international projects. Many of our projects are multidisciplinary with opportunities to work on transport planning, modelling and economics projects, as well as in wider consultancy disciplines such as operational or safety assessments, feasibility studies, benchmarking or strategic consulting. Working under guidance of our senior colleagues, you will undertake a variety of aviation-related planning studies and operational performance assessments. These may include:

  • Participation in defining the scope of the fast time simulation models, development method(s), model calibration/validation processes and outputs.
  • Data gathering, validation and pre-processing for the purpose of developing the fast time simulation models. Ability to work with various formats (mostly .csv, .xml, .json)
  • Development, calibration, validation and testing of airport and airspace fast time simulation models using specific aviation modelling software
  • Running the fast time simulations and analysis of results from each modelling exercise
  • Contribution to airport/airspace masterplans, capacity studies and operational assessments
  • Development and maintenance of project databases, 
  • Development of PowerBI dashboards with focus on aviation performance metrics, 
  • Development of interfaces between Egis’ airport/airspace simulation tools and available databases, 
  • Writing of technical reports and presentations
  • Attendance and presentation of material at design meetings and other project related meetings
  • Support to the marketing team in business development activities including input to tenders

 


Qualifications

Candidate Requirements

  • A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience with preference for an air transport related qualification
  • Basic understanding of transport modelling concepts (e.g. fast time simulations)
  • Excellent numerical skills including experience of using complex spreadsheets and databases
  • A high sense of accountability with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a drive to deliver high quality work
  • Ability and motivation to manage own work including inputs from others to time and to budget
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to distil and present technical work to non-technical audiences
  • The ability to work with a range of project stakeholders, contractors and clients
  • Recognition that international work brings international travel, and a willingness to undertake commissions overseas, potentially for extended periods away from the UK

Desirable skills/experience (order of preference):

  • Experience of working with airport/airspace simulation software (e.g. AirTOp, NEST, REDIM, AEDT, INM, EDMS or others)
  • Experience in airfield and/or terminal operations
  • Experience with GIS software (QGIS, ArcGIS etc.) and data types (ESRI shapefiles, KML etc.)  
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL or MySQL
  • Experience with pivot tables and VBA macros
  • Basic familiarity with XML schemas
  • Experience with Python or R
  • Professional membership to a relevant body
