Job Title: Test Analyst – Data Governance / Data Classification

Start Date: Within 2 weeks

Reporting to: Test Manager / Data Governance Lead

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilledTest Analystwith a strong background indata governanceanddata classification, particularly within Microsoft ecosystems. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience testing data protection and compliance solutions, ensuring that sensitive information is properly classified, protected, and governed throughout its lifecycle.

You will play a key role in validating the implementation and enforcement of data governance controls, policies, and endpoint protection strategies across platforms such asMicrosoft Purview,Microsoft 365,SharePoint, andDynamics 365.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute, and maintain test cases and scenarios to validate:

    • Data classification policies

    • Access control and permission restrictions

    • Alerts and policy enforcement workflows

  • Perform functional and negative testing aroundMicrosoft Purview Information Protection:

    • Ensure sensitive data is classified correctly

    • Validate access restrictions based on classification

    • Verify alerting and audit logging for policy violations

    • Test approval workflows for data reclassification

  • Validatepolicy enforcement:

    • Ensure document handling adheres to classification rules

    • Test CRUD operations (create, read, update, delete) within data governance context

  • ConductEndpoint DLP (Data Loss Prevention)testing:

    • Simulate restricted data/file movements on endpoints (e.g., copying to USB, cloud drives)

    • Validate correct blocking/quarantining of data exfiltration attempts

  • Ensure integration and correct behavior across Microsoft stack:

    • SharePoint document libraries with classification labels

    • Microsoft 365 apps (Outlook, Word, Excel) enforcing data policies

    • Dynamics 365 with embedded classification and protection

  • Participate in test planning, risk assessments, and reviews with security and compliance teams

  • Log and track defects using tools such as Azure DevOps or JIRA

  • Provide input into test strategy and continuous improvements in QA process

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a test analyst role withfocus on data governance/data protection

  • Hands-on testing experience with:

    • Microsoft Purview Information Protection

    • Endpoint DLP (Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, M365 compliance portal)

    • Data classification and sensitivity labels in Microsoft 365

  • Solid understanding ofaccess controls, permissions models, and data lifecycle policies

  • Knowledge of:

    • Microsoft 365 Security & Compliance Center

    • SharePoint Online and OneDrive policy testing

    • Microsoft Dynamics 365

  • Experience with manual and automated testing methodologies

  • Strong defect management and documentation skills

Desirable Qualifications

  • Microsoft certifications in security/compliance (e.g., SC-400: Microsoft Information Protection Administrator)

  • Knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001, HIPAA)

  • Experience in highly regulated environments (financial, healthcare, government)

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
