Opportunity

We are developing an end-to-end solution that will modernise the management of private equity fund portfolios, providing a next generation depth of insight, whilst drastically decreasing the manual work required for portfolio management. As private markets investors ourselves, we see this as an incredibly compelling value proposition with the industry crying out for a solution. The recent $3.2bn sale of Preqin is a strong indicator of the size of the market we are going after (largely same customer set).

Our platform will enable investors in private equity funds – some of the largest and most sophisticated institutional investors in the world – to manage and exploit the huge volume of data coming off their portfolios. The opaque nature of the industry, combined with the lack of standardisation, means private markets are years behind their public cousins when it comes to the tracking and utilisation of data, with an operating environment characterised by a general lack of technical maturity. Internal processes are cumbersome and manual, with investment teams tied up doing the same low value analysis work quarter on quarter. Investors are sitting on a gold mine of information but are missing key insights from their portfolio’s because of inadequate systems that are ill-suited to managing and analysing it.

We are seeking a technical co-founder to partner with us on this exciting journey to help change the industry; making a system that is fit for purpose, and helping customers better manage their portfolios through the application of next generation tools (AI, big data analysis, etc.).

Requirements

  • A true partner who will help inform the shape of the company (not someone to develop our vision)
  • Full stack developer, strong back-end capabilities
  • Keen executor (solving the problem rather than talking about it)
  • Disciplined, with sufficient time to dedicate to the project
  • Relaxed and easy going – we want this to be fun!

You will be joining the two existing co-founders, who have known each-other since university:

Co-founder #1: private markets investor

  • Elite boutique investment bank
  • Private equity fund investor (would be the customer of this product)
  • Co-founder of renewables business, having been through VC process and secured a term sheet (ultimately took high-net worth funding)
  • Product knowledge and relationships with potential customers

Co-founder #2: financial data scientist

  • Top tier hedge fund
  • Leading city asset manager
  • Software development and data analysis experience, with a focus on financial data

Roadmap

  • The existing co-founders are currently working full-time jobs
  • We are in the process of developing a prototype, targeting end of April
  • We will then test market with potential customers and investors
  • Assuming positive feedback, we will dedicate ourselves to the opportunity full-time
  • We will likely seek to raise external VC funding
