Role: Technical Writer - Retail Systems & Platforms

Department: Product Development

Salary: £30,000 - £40,000

Location: London (Kentish Town - nearest stations are Kentish Town or Kentish Town West. Also 15 min bus from St Pancras or Kings Cross).

Currently 3x days on site - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday - it's possible we may move back to 4 days in the future but there are no firm plans for that at this stage.

What does an Associate Technical Author / Writer do?

We are looking for an Associate Technical Author / Writer (1-2 years experience) who is interested in working within new product development and contributing to the delivery of high-quality product documentation for electronic consumer goods. You will be responsible for generating copy for multiple brands, including product descriptions, instruction manuals, box artwork, and other product-related content.

Working within the Product Development team, we are seeking someone who is passionate about the overall customer experience. You will help identify ways to apply customer insight to improve how users interact with our products, ensuring they can get the most out of them. This will involve working with teams across the business to gather insights and apply them in your work to enhance the overall user experience.

The role requires strong project management skills and the ability to assess and improve the efficiency of content delivery. You will be expected to not only generate briefs but also manage projects for the creative team, capturing the core values of each product while maintaining consistency across our wider portfolio.

The role will have opportunity for learning and development in a fast paced company; applying and developing your skills whilst working alongside experienced product team members.

Role & Responsibilities

Take on responsibility for copy for multiple brands.
Write and edit product descriptions, instruction manuals, box artwork, and any other product-related copy.
Collaborate with product teams to understand complex technical concepts and translate them into clear, accessible content.
Ensure consistency in terminology, style, and structure across all documentation.
Work with the Design Team and Marketing Team to manage the artwork critical path, ensuring all files are ready on time and to an impeccable standard.
Work with the New Product Development Team, Compliance Team and Purchasing Team to ensure all assets are in place for product packaging creation.
Carry out research on product attributes, brands, competitive keywords, and content to create new and informative product copy.
Scrutinise new and existing artwork, instruction manuals, and product listings to ensure we are the best in the market.
Proofread content to ensure high standards are maintained.
Manage our translation partners to ensure a timely, high-quality output.
Generate and manage QR codes with relevant additional information for our customers.
Assist other teams with ad hoc copy tasks appropriate to the role.Skills & Experience Required

1-2 years experience in a similar role.
Exceptional English and grammar skills.
Meticulous attention to detail, proofreading and editing skills.
Well-developed research skills with a natural curiosity to find out and absorb information about unfamiliar topics, products, or markets.
Ability to work quickly, accurately, and prioritise activities to meet tight deadlines.
Proven copy writing skills, with a basic understanding of SEO.
Good communication and ability to work closely with various stakeholders.
"Ideas person" who will contribute to brainstorming creative ideas to improve product pages.
Organised with good time management within a fast-paced environment.
Passionate about e-commerce and physical products.
Autonomous and able to make informed and quick decisions.
