Our Data Platform Team plays a pivotal role in empowering the wider business with the data and infrastructure tools needed to drive innovation, insights, and storytelling through data. We build and maintain the foundational technology stack that underpins our data products, ensuring that teams across BBC Studios can easily and securely access the information they need.
As a Data Platform Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining the core data infrastructure at BBC Studios. Working closely with other members of the Data Platform Squad, you will create automated and scalable solutions that enable data engineers, analysts, and product teams to seamlessly access and process large volumes of data. This is a hands-on engineering role that involves leveraging a variety of modern technologies and best practices.
Knowledge, skills and experience
Essential
- Strong experience building and maintaining infrastructure on AWS (e.g S3,IAM, Lambdas, RDS)
- Demonstrable proficiency with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code Principles.
- Solid experience developing backend services using Node.js (Typescript)
- Proven knowledge of SQL and familiarity with relational database concepts.
- Experience with building React apps.
Desirable
- Exposure to other programming languages (e.g., Python) for data tooling and Automation.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and DevOps practices.
- Experience with Snowflake.
- Understanding of data governance, security and compliance standards.
