About the Role
As soon as possible, ICIS is looking for a (senior) quantitative market analyst that equally combines energy market domain knowledge with a solid quantitative background to join our established energy analytics team in Karlsruhe (Germany). In this exciting role you connect customer needs and qualitative analysis to improve our energy market modelling and a high-end technical infrastructure. We are operating a unique integrated energy model that simulates all European power markets as well as their interaction with gas, carbon and hydrogen. Our state-of-the-art infrastructure, consisting of development environment, data storage, compute environment and data delivery, is the core of our products. It enables us to effectively create data driven analysis as well as improve and develop new models. The focus of the team spans from the liquid trading horizon, PPAs, to long-term investment decisions. This broad scope will give you an excellent overview about the energy commodities markets. Additionally, you’ll have the flexibility to pick own focus areas be it in the direction of coding and model improvement, outstanding analysis or elevated data delivery to customers. ICIS will support you to develop into a market expert in your field of interest.
We work in a dynamic, project-oriented setting, which allows space for innovation and guarantees a high individual responsibility and project ownership. You will benefit from our energy modelling expertise and your work will be an integral element to our cross-team approach. You will be part of an international team, which requires occasional travel within the EU. As of day one, you will be tasked with challenging analytics projects and be in contact with customers and prospects across the EU energy landscape.
Key Accountabilities:
Develop and operate data-driven models to predict European power, carbon, gas and hydrogen markets
Analyse market drivers and provide in-depth, data-driven analysis
Lead and manage relevant projects
Continue your journey to develop into a key industry expert and/or coding and modelling expert in energy market models
Develop, maintain, and improve routines and data preparations
Take responsibility for live operations
Constantly learn new techniques and apply to existing problems
Manage students and guide young professionals
Attend exhibitions, conferences, and customer meetings
Skills and Behaviours:
Power/energy market expertise, preferably demonstrated in a trading arm of a utility, oil & gas company, consultancy or analytics provider
Excellent programming skills in a programming language, Python; SQL, GAMS and HTML preferable
Experience with fundamental optimization models preferable
Analytical mind-set, critical thinking, and ability to build profound knowledge in complex markets
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Fluent written and spoken English
Master’s degree in relevant area from a renowned university
