Senior Embedded Engineer

Nottingham, UK (mainly onsite) - Hybrid is an option

Salary - Depending on experience.

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Embedded Engineer with expertise in IoT and related protocols. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing innovative solutions for IoT sensors and gateways. This role requires a deep understanding of embedded systems, wireless communication protocols, and the ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and test software/firmware for IoT sensor and gateway products.
Debug and troubleshoot software/firmware to identify and resolve issues.
Assist in the design and development of electronic hardware from prototype to production.
Conduct product testing, including validation and verification, and generate test specifications and reports.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including management, engineers, designers, and quality assurance testers, to ensure project success.
Manage external contractors and design houses as needed.
Maintain and update technical construction file documentation.

Essential Skills and Experience:

Several years of relevant experience in embedded systems development.
Proficiency in programming languages and tools used for embedded software/firmware development.
Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
Experience with microcontrollers such as Raspberry Pi, STM32, and Microchip.
Hands-on experience in development and troubleshooting on embedded targets.
Knowledge of wireless communication protocols used in IoT, such as Wi-Fi, LTE, and IoT-specific protocols.
Familiarity with version control systems like GIT and SVN.
Ability to read and interpret schematics and datasheets for components.
Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable Skills:

Familiarity with software configuration management tools and defect tracking systems.
Understanding of production environments and processes.
Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout CAD packages such as Altium Designer.
Knowledge of database storage solutions like JSON and SQL.
