Let's be #BrilliantTogether

ISS Stoxx is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to bolster our expertise in the development and deployment of our cutting-edge financial intelligence platform. We are concluding the first phase of a full-scale re-architecting of our on-prem data estate to a modern componentised set of solutions using GCP technologies. In this IC role, you will collaborate with Principal Data Engineers and the wider team to evolve our data architecture and interpret product needs, requirements and enterprise policies into solutions that deliver clear value and accrue to our five-year vision.

You'll be able to demonstrate comfort and success in a matrixed organisation where reporting lines do not always dictate technical direction - in a culture where the global Data Engineering function collaborate to achieve shared success. You will collaborate with cross-functional peers and stakeholders to share best practice and knowledge, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

You'll be a humble expert, willing and able to meet people at their level and both help them and learn from them. You'll lead by example, using data and proof-of-concepts to bring people along and make them successful. You'll own deliverables as well as co-developing solutions with your peers and colleagues, to help others develop.

Success in this role means you successfully navigate the line between personal and team value delivery - you embody beliefs and practices that helping your peers and colleagues grow and deliver their best, improves and reflects back on you too.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, test, deploy and support capabilities and use cases on our expanding data ecosystem
  • Work smart, look for reuse and extension and focus on new problems, not solved problems
  • Interpret requirements and engage stakeholders to ensure what you're building is relevant and valuable
  • Generously share your experience to help your peers develop and grow
  • Advocate for our architecture and solutions, demonstrating technical principles and business value and constantly seek feedback
  • Keep abreast of emerging trends and technologies in cloud data management and operation, to form and disseminate new insights
  • Be a data pipeline or data content expert
Requirements
  • 5+ years experience, with focus on data engineering in the cloud
  • Experience developing and deploying of large-scale, complex data pipelines
  • Experience of decomposed batch transformation pipelines, based on lakehouse concepts
  • Experience of cloud development, the benefits and challenges
  • Experience of GCP, AWS or Azure products across database, serverless, containerization and API
  • Pragmatic experience using agile to deliver incremental value
  • Experience working in a global or multinational team setting
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Focus on simplicity, automation and observability
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Expertise with DBT, Python, SQL, Airflow, DataDog
Desirable
  • Strong knowledge of GCP products, especially BigQuery, CloudRun and CloudSQL
  • Experience of micro-batch and near real-time data pipelines
  • Experience integrating RAG LLMs and machine learning models into data pipelines, using user decision data for ongoing model training, and of exposing chat interfaces to data assets
  • Experience with data cataloguing and data entitlement capabilities
  • Practical knowledge of using DBT to implement layered transformation flows
  • Domain knowledge of financial market data and financial index data models and feeds
  • Experience with on-prem deployments and on-prem to cloud migration

Why Data Science Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

Data science once meant advanced statistics, machine learning models and coding in Python or R. In the UK today, it has become one of the most in-demand professions across sectors — from healthcare to finance, retail to government. But as the field matures, employers now expect more than technical modelling skills. Modern data science is multidisciplinary. It requires not just coding and algorithms, but also legal knowledge, ethical reasoning, psychological insight, linguistic clarity and human-centred design. Data scientists are expected to interpret, communicate and apply data responsibly, with awareness of law, human behaviour and accessibility. In this article, we’ll explore why data science careers in the UK are becoming more multidisciplinary, how these five disciplines intersect with data science, and what job-seekers & employers need to know to succeed in this transformed field.

Data Science Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Data Science Department

Data science is one of the most in-demand, dynamic, and multidisciplinary areas in the UK tech and business landscape. Organisations from finance, retail, health, government, and beyond are using data to drive decisions, automate processes, personalise services, predict trends, detect fraud, and more. To do that well, companies don’t just need good data scientists; they need teams with clearly defined roles, responsibilities, workflows, collaboration, and governance. If you're aiming for a role in data science or recruiting for one, understanding the structure of a data science department—and who does what—can make all the difference. This article breaks down the key roles, how they interact across the lifecycle of a data science project, what skills and qualifications are typical in the UK, expected salary ranges, challenges, trends, and how to build or grow an effective team.

Why the UK Could Be the World’s Next Data Science Jobs Hub

Data science is arguably the most transformative technological field of the 21st century. From powering artificial intelligence algorithms to enabling complex business decisions, data science is essential across sectors. As organisations leverage data more rapidly—from retailers predicting customer behaviour to health providers diagnosing conditions—demand for proficiency in data science continues to surge. The United Kingdom is particularly well-positioned to become a global data science jobs hub. With world-class universities, a strong tech sector, growing AI infrastructure, and supportive policy environments, the UK is poised for growth. This article delves into why the UK could emerge as a leading destination for data science careers, explores the job market’s current state, outlines future opportunities, highlights challenges, and charts what must happen to realise this vision.
