The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) Information Technology (IT) Strategy & Architecture function enables the organisation to deliver world-class services. It is a centre of excellence responsible for the technology strategy, delivering a broad portfolio of change to transform the Agency’s legacy technologies and deliver innovative solutions designed around customer needs.

The architecture team defines the MCA technology strategy, develops the solutions’ architectures to realize this strategy, and ensures architecture and technology principles are met and maintained.

A data architect designs and builds data models to fulfill the organisation's strategic data needs, as defined by the Chief Data Architect. As Senior Data Architect, you will deliver the vision set by the Chief Data Architect, define technology roadmaps aligned with business and IT strategies, and establish Master Data and Data Archival Strategies for operational data.

This role is part of the Government Digital and Data Profession Capability Framework. As a technology specialist, you’ll work at the forefront of digital government services.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with the Chief Data Architect to interpret strategic data needs and translate them into architecture artefacts.
  • Defining and maintaining enterprise data architecture, including data models, metadata standards, and integration patterns to support business intelligence and data warehousing.
  • Participating in governance forums such as the Architecture Review Board and Data Governance Board, and escalating data-related risks or deviations from standards.
  • Collaborating across teams to ensure clarity, uphold documentation standards, and support strategic data initiatives.
