The role of Regional Finance Director will drive the financial performance and position of a region whilst also being a key member of the Scotland East finance team. Their key role will be to provide finance and commercial insight to the Scotland East and Scotland West regions and divisions as well as structuring all of the regional finance people in the divisions in the most efficient manner.

In addition, they will support the Managing Director in the day-to-day implementation of the Divisions financial strategy across their regions.

  • Providing their RC and divisional FDs with clear, insightful analysis and commentary for their region, providing recommendations and implementing action plans.

  • Be the finance lead for their division and ensuring an appropriate finance structure, incorporating succession planning, exists across the region.

  • Driving operational efficiencies and ensuring investment in land and sites is maximising returns.

  • Interrogating margin and ROCE assumptions in the land buying process and quarterly CVR progress to ensure these metrics are maximised.

  • Share operational finance best practice to allow divisions to optimise performance.

  • Providing a first line of operational finance support for Regional Chairs to ensure decisions are aligned with the Division’s strategy.

  • Interpreting all forward-looking financial and operational analysis produced by Division’s, including short, medium and long-range financial planning, budgeting and forecasting. In doing so, having a full understanding over time of the operations of the region, the key interdependencies between business functions and their impact on overall financial performance and position.

  • Working with the Director of Commercial Finance for the continued optimisation of the Division’s financial modelling capabilities to ensure the delivery of real-time, value add forecasting and optionality to the business.

  • Critically reviewing the internal management reporting requirements to ensure both the contents of the reports remain relevant to the users and the method of reporting.

  • Working with the Director of Commercial Finance in the development of predictive analytics and performance dashboards to support management decision making, as well as areas of importance to the business, including but not limited to work-in-progress, land and operating expenditure, overheads and liquidity management.

  • Review the financial evaluation of strategic initiatives including land, joint ventures, and other commercial initiatives, from both a returns and accounting perspective. This will involve collaboration with other senior leaders across the business.

  • Ensuring the Division’s finance strategy is understood by their region and support their region in achieving target performance. This will involve liaising with the Regional Chair, divisional management teams, regular divisional visits and embedding a collaborative approach to continuous improvement.

  • Other ad hoc projects as they arise and impact the business from a financial or operating perspective

    Experience

  • Qualified accountant with extensive experience in a similar role

  • Construction or property experience is preferred

  • Experience of successfully leading and developing a team

  • Experience of change management

    Qualifications and Training

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification

  • Full UK driving licence

    Skills and Aptitude

  • Ability to overlay technical accounting knowledge commercially

  • Ability to communicate at all levels across various functions

  • Good interpersonal skills with experience of interacting with senior executive team members

  • Strong ability to multi-task and work under pressure to deadlines in a fast-paced environment, where relationships, organisation, accuracy and a high attention to detail is required

  • Self-motivated team player

  • Hands-on approach to issue resolution and driven to deliver the required result

  • Excellent verbal and written presentation skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

    Working Conditions

    Willing to be flexible in respect to day-to-day duties and hours worked.

    Office based role with some travel to Divisions within the regions and ad-hoc travel to Group office will be required.

    Please note this role is subject to a basic DBS and financial pre-employment checks
