About the role

University College London (UCL) is seeking an experienced research data governance manager to lead the development and provision of services to support researchers working with sensitive and confidential information. The postholder will be based in the Centre for Advanced Research Computing (ARC), and work with researchers and data spanning all academic disciplines. Responsibilities include: 

Leading the Information Governance function for ARC Coordinating Information Governance advice, documentation, and training for researchers and support staff Developing and implementing ARC’s Information Security Management System (ISMS) Gaining and maintaining certification to standards such as ISO and the NHS DSP Toolkit for our Trusted Research Environments, including managing internal and external audits Building relationships with internal and external Information Governance stakeholders 

ARC is UCL’s institute for infrastructure and innovation in digital research - the supercomputers, datasets, software and people that make data and computational science and digital scholarship possible. ARC is a hybrid department, with staff providing professional services to other researchers across the university, whilst being enabled to conduct research in their own right should they be interested in doing so.

In ARC’s professional structure, this post is considered part of the Research Data Stewardship family of roles. The successful candidate will work with a team of more than a dozen data stewards involved in supporting good research data management to enable research reproducibility and the appropriate re-use of data.

About you

The ideal candidate for this role will have a deep understanding of information security and risk management. They will have a track record of working with digital research infrastructure and platforms, and be familiar with structured information security models. They will also be familiar with de-identification and anonymization techniques

as well as challenges relating to both quantitative and qualitative data. This is a senior role, so the postholder will need to be a confident communicator who can work in partnership with senior managers and academics, and influence a range of stakeholders.
