Job Purpose

Do you want to work for one of the world's leading pharmaceutical and healthcare companies, applying your statistical and data science skills to make key contributions to the manufacture of critical vaccines and medicines?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Data Scientist to join our global Statistics & Data Science Team, dedicated to supporting the launch of vaccines and medicines products to market and their subsequent product lifecycle within manufacturing. Our team is part of the global Manufacturing Science Analytical and Technology (MSAT) group. We are looking for an experienced data scientist to lead the data analysis, and exploration, reporting and communication of results and conclusions in the form of technical documents and presentations in accordance with regulatory and internal guidance. In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with scientific colleagues in multidisciplinary teams to embed data-driven thinking within projects. This is an exciting opportunity to use your applied data evaluation and modelling skills to lead statistics and data science capabilities built across several manufacturing sites, providing ample opportunity to coach key individuals to acquire the skills needed for data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

In this role you and your team will...

  • Act as an essential partner within cross-functional global teams by providing data science expertise to design, develop, and optimize business-impacting data solutions. Use these alongside other scientific understanding to drive outcomes aligned to GSK values. This especially includes contribution to the resolution of deviations and improvement projects.
  • Actively participate in all stages of model design and development (from data collection, data quality control, model building, model validation, testing, and model monitoring & lifecycle strategy) adhering to business leadership standards.
  • Lead the data analysis, and exploration, reporting and communication of results and conclusions in the form of technical documents and presentations in accordance with regulatory and internal guidance. Take full ownership and accountability of all data science content.
  • Review the data science element of technical documents as a Subject Matter Expert.
  • Influence GSK internal policies, guidelines and SOPs to ensure appropriate data evaluation.
  • Actively participate with the wider data science network (MSAT, Quality, R&D, as well as with the Operational Excellence community) to develop, align and standardize data evaluation methodologies and conventions to help ensure that best practices are incorporated into local ways of working.
  • Upskill the organization through coaching, mentoring, and training of non-experts and junior statisticians and data scientists as required on the appropriate application of data science, statistics, and data evaluation tools for their business processes.

Why you?Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • MSc in data science, statistics, biostatistics, or a closely related field.
  • Ability to manage networks and build relationships transversally across the organization.
  • Strong and diverse technical knowledge in data science/statistics. Knowledge in several of the following areas: multi- and megavariate analysis, regression and classification modelling, explainable AI, Monte Carlo simulation, data augmentation, statistics, Chemometrics. Experience in the use of data science software (e.g., Python)
  • Experience in Agile development projects
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills with experience in communicating complex information in logical and simplified terms at different levels.
  • Background in consulting for data science projects, working alongside colleagues not experienced in data science to devise practical solutions for inquiries.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • PhD in data science, statistics, biostatistics, or a closely related field.
  • Knowledge of core API and drug product tests, unit operations, and product control strategies across multiple dose forms.
  • Background in consulting for data science projects within a pharmaceutical manufacturing setting.

If you have a disability and require assistance during the course of the selection process, you will have the opportunity to let us know what specific assistance you require in order to make suitable arrangements.
